Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences hiring houseboats and has any recommendations?

done about 4x trips from Mannum and one from Morgan.
always an awesome time, especially if you have a boat which you can bring along.
We have don the unforgettable ones a few times, i think # 5.

pays to get a nice one, especially the ones with a steering wheel from the top deck. Also a spa on the top deck is a must.
great spots to dock, camp fire on the banks. almost nothing better.

Do you need a boat license?

Nope. Car licence. They give you a lesson on how to drive it before you head off.

We went on one this year from Berri for our footy trip. I think it was house boat adventures or something. Definately recommend one with a spa on it.

My mate owns Houseboat Adventures in Berri. We are going on one next weekend at Blanchetown through Griffins Marina. They are good people too. They aren't cheap, but if you get a 10 berth and have 10 people on it, it works out quite reasonable.

Last one we did was during the heatwave in March a few years ago. Met friends from Melbourne at Mildura and hired (IIRC) this baby;

http://www.allseasonshouseboats.com.au/html/fleet/sheerindulgence.html

Was stinking ******* hot, but we swam everyday, and the kids played in the spa as we were cruising. Went upstream and stopped at the Gol Gol hotel for tea one night, and Trentham Estate Wineries for lunch another day.

The better houseboats have the battery system which means you can run the Air Con without a generator which are normally loud!

With 40 degree days we need the Air Con on ALL DAY!!

We have used Swan, Liba Liba, Indulgance and a few smaller ones. Great holidays to be had!!

Best holiday going around. Most people go in summer but I've always gone in winter, much cheaper and you can pull up on the bank and sit round a twiggy, nothing better!

Last couple of times I've gone on this houseboat:

Great to deal with and pretty reasonably priced if you get enough couples together to fill it.

Thanks for the replies folks. Would definitely get one with a big spa on the top deck, just have to weigh up whether I want to fork out that much cash.

Just got back from a weekend on this-

Amazing houseboat. Spa and 2nd Helm on the top deck.

And my favorite part, keg fridge with a 50L keg from the onsite brewery! :drinkers:

Really? I'll have to look!

I was going to mention them and Liba Liba at Renmark. Good service. Good boats and houseboating above Renmark is great.

Off topic, but have you sampled Pepperjacks at Tanunda? Not a bad drop

Gol Gol, is that the one just out of Mildura, if so - SENSATIONAL pub, and the view at sunset over the river is sublime
