Am doing the first family holiday with the wife and young kids in the car to drive from Adel - Melb via the Great Ocean Rd and back through Sovereign Hill.
Any lesser known things on the way? The kinda stuff only the locals would know about?
Mount Gambier - Pt Fairy - Port Campbell - Apollo Bay - Geelong - Melb - Ballarat - Halls Gap - Bordertown

Erskine Falls @ Lorne
The Otways Tree-Top Walk

Both worth a look. Kids will love the tree-top walk. The missus will hate it if she can't handle heights

Agree. We got some take away at Nelson and went for a little drive and found a spot on the Glenelg River to have lunch as we were doing our Great Ocean Road trip last year. Beautiful spot. I remember going on a family canoe trip down it when I was younger and was glad I visited again.

Theres a wildlife park just out of Halls gap now which is apparently very popular.

If your'e an RAA member don't forget you get discounted entry to Sovereign hill - and the Flagstaff Hill maratime village in Warrnambool, which also do a magic light show called Shipwrecked.

a world class sound and laser show where tragedy and triumph are relived in this sound and laser spectacular. An innovative aqua screen rises from the harbour and suddenly takes you aboard the Loch Ard on its treacherous voyage to Melbourne. Join Eva Charmichael and Tom Pearce as they survive one of
Australia’s most famous shipwrecks. It’s the voyage of a lifetime!

PM me if you want more details ;)

Is Kryall Castle still open?
Went to it as kids a few times, was pretty cool but last heard it was fairly run down

Going to Melbourne with the wife end of next week for our 2 year wedding anniversary / honeymoon we still haven't been on !!!

Staying at the Etihad Stadium end of Little Collins Street and haven't not been to Etihad for a game of AFL, will be going to the Sunday twilight game between Essendon and Port while the wife catches up with a girlfriend now living over there.

As the Anniversary present, my wife loves classical music and used to play the voilin so as a surprise, have booked tickets for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and will take her out for dinner somewhere nice as well.

Just looking forward to getting away for 4 or 5 days, can't wait.

Am also doing the Great Ocean Road drive between Xmas-New Year to get to Lorne for Falls Festival. The tree-top walk sounds good, will stop in at Nelson as well. We've got 11 days, so doing a couple of nights in Mt Gambier, a night in Pt Campbell, 2 in Lorne, 2 in Geelong, 2 in Ballarat and 2 in Halls Gap.

A last minute decision has my wife and I spending 4 nights along the Great Ocean Road over xmas/new year period.

One night in Warrnambool, two near Pt Campbell and final night in Torquay. Would have liked a night near Apollo Bay/Lorne but left bookings way too late.

Have done a bit of research the past few nights and it doesn’t look like we’ll have much problem filling the days. But regardless, does anybody have any DOs and DONTs for the region apart from the couple mentioned above?
