I've stayed in my fair share of backpackers over the last 7 months or so, so thought I'd put up a bit of a review of some of them.

Brisbane - Bunk (8/10)
$12 a night, can't really go wrong, in terms of value for money this place is about as good as it gets, decent location, only a 5 minute walk from the Brisbane CBD, and its right in the heart of Fortitude Valley.

Melbourne - Flinders Station Backpackers (7/10)
Pretty cheap and basic, not the best place going around, but it has a cracking bar and is in a brilliant location.

Melbourne - YHA (7.5/10)
Decent enough, facilities better than most backpackers going around.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Sunshine Bedz (6/10)
Good location, security is pretty well non existent though, the no shoe policy is a bit of an odd one though.

Porto, Potugal - Magnolia Porto Hostel (7/10)
Very helpful staff, quiet place in a decent location.

Madrid, Spain - Way Hostel (6/10)
Very busy place, in a bit of a dead part of Madrid though, pretty good activities offered to guests though.

San Antonio, Ibiza, Spain - Hostal Marino (9.5/10)
More like a hotel, probably the best hostel I've ever stayed in, 5 minute walk to all the bars in the west end, and very friendly staff, brilliant food in the bar too.

Barcelona, Spain - Itaca Hostel (4/10)
Pretty ordinary, showers are crap, but the place is pretty close to La Rambla and all the fun that comes with it.

Brussels, Belgium - Sleep Well (7/10)
More of a hotel, price shows that though.

Luxembourg City, Luxembourg - Luxembourg City Hostel (7/10)
Location is a little bit of a hike, literally, but the place is pretty good, pretty decent nightlife complex nearby.

Edinburgh, Scotland - Royal Mile Hostel (8/10)
Plenty of pubs nearby, right near Edinburgh Castle, pretty good amount of privacy too, even in a 12 bed dorm.

Glasgow, Scotland - Euro Hostel (8/10)
Well worth what it cost, the alcohol vending machine is a big plus considering you can't buy booze after 10pm in Glasgow too.

Newcastle, England - Albatross (7.5/10)
Good value, Yates pub straight across the road, and pretty close to everything else as well, in a good spot for nightlife too.

Liverpool, England - Hatters Hostel (9/10)
Quality place, room was very affordable and was like a 2 bedroom apartment, better than a lot of hotels I've stayed in, pretty close to things as well.

Belfast, Northern Ireland - Global Village (4/10)
Nowhere near enough facilities for the number of people staying here.

Dublin, Ireland - Barnacles Temple Bar House (8/10)
Great location, right amongst all the pubs, some of the rooms even have private balcony's.

Feel free to add some of your own reviews of hostels you've stayed in.

stayed in hatters hostel in liverpool aswell, good hostel, very clean, good heating in rooms which is crucial in a cold liverpool winter. good social rooms and communal kitchen, fantastic burger place just down the road which i smashed after a night out on the grog in liverpool, good location, walking distance to central station.

stayed in the wombat hostel in vienna, austria. Best hostel ever, great rooms, great facilites, a little bit out of town, but close to the awesome vienna tube system.

smart city hostel in edinburgh, good hostel, awesome location, fantastic bar, quick internet.

Stayed there over a decade ago. Thought the location was gorgeous - but then so is most of Lux City.

Melalueca's - Darwin

In the heart of Mitchell St, two pools, spa, bar and huge screen on the roof. Pub next door. Air conditioners are amazing.

Can't ask for much else.
