A mate was telling me today that he can get from Perth AUSTRALIA to Southampton ENGLAND, via a Cargo Ship next year. Wondering if this was true and if so what are the costs $$$, also what are the cabins like, internet, TV, use of a Mobile Phone or any luxuries at all aboard or just really basic. If anyone knows of a company that does this type of travel on a Cargo Ship can you please PM me the details, as might make enquiries.
Apparently the trip takes about 35 days and goes through about 14 different ports including going through the Suez Canal. Sounds interesting if true. Please advise if anyone knows more

There's a few website re this. Try this one for starters;
http://www.strandtravelltd.co.uk/There's a 37 day trip for 4120 GBP, one way (approx 6936 AUD or 13872 return)
To fly the same leg (return) would cost about 3600 AUD.

Wondering if you have a list of other Websites please. Found that one interesting, but as much reading as I can find will make me make an informed decision. Seems a little steep in price from what my mate told he he was paying to go from Perth to Southhampton. Considerably higher actually.

Unless you don't want a cruise, I think you could work out two or three or four cruises that would get you there at a reasonable cost if you were happy with a low-cost cabin.

Give me some ideas please as to websites or contacts if anyone should have them. Would be greatly appreciated. Not keen on flying and this seems very interesting and also has a sense of adventure. Many thanks to anyone who has any ideas

Just throw 'travel to the UK by cargo ship" into a search engine.
Try this link for starters...

It's a great adventure.
In 1976, I went on a Russian ship (CTC LInes) to England and back.
Left from Sydney, 5 1/2 weeks to the UK, via Auckland, Montevideo, Uruguay, then Rio de Janiero, Canary Islands, Lisbon to Southampton.
Later in the year, I came back on another Russian ship via Naples, Port Said, Suez, Colombo and Perth (4 1/2 weeks).
One of the defining times of my life, wonderful.
I'll link some cruise sites as soon as I can, but I'd think it could be done OK. For example, cruise to Hawaii, then Hawaii to US, overland a bit to Galveston, Texas, where you would get a cruise to Europe very cheaply.

Obviously had compulsory political indoctrination classes on board
