Tiger Airways ... beware

No doubt you have all heard or seen stories of the poor service Tiger Airways provides.
and recent reports of their cancellation of services from Adelaide to Hobart, Brisbane and Gold Coast.

Now I dont expect service much given how cheap the fares are
BUT
they are pulling a new stunt that I think is not on.

My sister in law is getting married in Hobart in September.
Back in May we booked flights with the only airline that flew direct Adelaide - Hobart, Tiger

In early July Tiger announced via the Media that all flights on this route were cancelled from August and refunds would be provided.

Here is the rub

- Tiger is yet to contact us to advise of the cancellation (without Media we would not know)

- There has been no refund, some four weeks after the announcement.

Can't believe a business is allowed to take a deposit, cancel the service and then not return the money in a timely manner.

Given the way Tiger is cancellling routes from Adelaide I would be VERY WARY anout giving them my money not knowing for sure if they will actually still have the route when I need to fly.

PS: Just spoke to my husband and he said he heard yesterday that they are flying to the Gold Coast until November.

We are booked to go in September - *Prays this is correct and we will be unaffected* :ympray:

Okay - thankyou Phil O:)

So it seems we are safe for our bookings - mini heart-attack over Image

I hope you get your refund very soon, and yes pretty poor that you have waited this long.

Be interesting to see if you typed in your dates into their website to see if they still 'offer' these flights - which would really be a no, no.

Traveller's 'nightmare' battle with airline over refund
By Kate Schneider news.com.au ... May 14, 2010 10:00AM

TIGER Airways is blaming a computer glitch for a travel nightmare that left a customer waiting seven months for a refund on a cancelled flight ..................

As I said just be aware that if you book a flight with Tiger
- they are currently cancelling routes
- if you are on a booked route they cancel you won't see your money for ages

Flew with them to melbourne and back last November, that was enough to scare me off them for life.

I've used them before for non critical trips.

Australia just cannot sustain 4 domestic airlines.

First 3 times were ok, the 4th time though resulted in me never considering travel with them again.
More than happy to pay the extra $'s and fly with another airline.

We didnt have any real problems but people in Melb arrived for their 10am flight to Mackay to be told its now at 4.30pm. They had the film crew there to capture their disgust  They had 2 staff working doing everything, and about 150 people in the queue.

And I believe if one of the major airlines need one of their time slots at the majors airports they willingly sell them and delay their flights around the country.

If Im travelling the last thing I want is hassles with an airline, even if it costs me a little more.

I've flown Tiger several times, and have found them to be excellent. Only once have I not been offered seats in an exit aisle (while they do sell these seats at a premium, most are actually given away at check in). Flew them return to Sydney this week and no problems - my mate and I actually had the exit row to ourselves both ways!

Jetstar and Qantas are worse than Tiger IMO

Like most things in life you get what you pay for.

there on time performance is at its best around 70% the other 3 airlines are very really below 80%

Exactly right in what you said about getting what you pay for.
I had similar experience as Phil with Jetstar, a mate of mine had similar experiences with Virgin.
I'll only fly Qantas these days and don't mind paying extra for it as I've had no problems with them for the last 30 years.
Having said that, last time I went to Melbourne and back Qantas were the best price for the time I wanted to go and come back (not some ungodly hour in the morning or night).

Me too, I don't paying the extra so that I won't get messed around.

On an unrelated note Wedgie, I actually have a Dwight Schrute bobblehead. I got it in New York at the NBC store.
