Good Overseas Trip for Kids?

I went to Phuket with the missus last year and was planning on going there again with the kids around next April.
Lots of things to do there even for kids and I'm sure they'd have a ball but I was wondering if people had any other ideas for a family with 2 kids aged 11 and 14?
Been to Queenlsand before and overseas would be a lot more exciting IMHO.
Probably would consider anything from US to Phuket as far as west to east is concerned.
Any ideas?

Orlando, Florida, USA.
Ideal. Great weather, theme parks galore, good shopping. Oh and cheap beer. All bases covered

Agreed, spent a week there a couple years ago, it's full of amusements for kids.

Motor home trip in South New Zealand, awesome scenery and adventure down there, if your into that sort of thing.
Sounds like you may be into a resort style holiday though?

Doubly agree! Best place I've visited for kid content.

The missus would like that but definatley not for me, would rather warm weather, nice pools, cold beer.

Don't rule it out good to get on the open / windy roads! if your family survives that your doing ok.

And being quite a distance from Australia, a stop at Vegas on the way there and a stop at Hawaii on the way back would also be recommended.

Hmm, sounds good, but sounds costly for a family of 4!
Only planned 2 weeks away too.

Cruise mate. Ideal for families. Plenty of pools and beer for yourself, kids have different rooms and activities depending on their age that you can dump them in with almost 12-hour-a-day supervision, as much food as you can eat all catered for, no cleaning, various types of shows on each night and you still get to stop and see some amazing parts of the world with day stops where you can explore yourself or book into some planned tours.
Myself and the missus did a 12-day P&O Cruise through the South Pacific last year. New Caledonia, Vanuatu, out to Fiji. Top holiday, highly recommend it.

Consider Japan. Was never anywhere in my top 20 "places to see" til I went there for work. Loved it, and took the family there (13 & 10 at the time). Pretty easy to get around - Japan Rail pass a must. Food wonderful & the kids even eat it. People so polite and helpful. Just open a street map and start counting - if you get to 5 before someone helps you're in a rough part of town. Schoolkids particularly love to practice their "Engrish" on you - so if lost, ask a kid! Everything from feudal history, WWII & Akihabira (Electronic City). The bullet trains are bloody fantastic. Kyoto my fave spot, but Tokyo - I've seen 2% of it great too. Havn't been north yet - maybe next time. On a very similar time zone too, so zippo jet lag.

Should have listened to ya, could have had a rockin' good time!

Leaning towards Phuket in January at this stage. Shopping, swimming, new water park, Fantasea, elephant riding, white water rafting, sea canoing, monkeys, etc, etc, can't find anything close to it yet value wise that'll be great fun for all. And who needs sex ed when I can take the 11 year old boy to see a ping pong show!

Just a warning that accommodation is double/triple the price it normally is in Phuket during January, their peak-time.

Maybe Hawaii? Haven't looked for a while but considering it's one of Jetstar's destinations, it should be pretty well priced. Went there as a kid with the family and had a ball.

Nah, I was looking at Hawaii but for what I wanted do I would have had to fork out almost an extra 8k and that doesn't even take into account the money that would be spent at each destination further writing it off.

i thought the same thing until i went on one in Alaska in 09 and did Oasis of the seas this year. Different port on most days great rooms like a 4* hotel food more than u can ever eat and all included in the price. Great for kids on the right ship to chill out by the pool like you could at any resort. did i mention the food? Oasis of the seas is more like a city than a cruise ship and the food!!!!
