Staying 7 days or longer ? Ensure you have $25 USD each for your entry Visa ($10 USD if less then 7 days). This eliminates the need to queue for USD when you arrive. Make sure the money is exact too for each person.

Get maybe $100 AUD of IDR to before you go. Saves you finding a money changer, and gets you through the first day or so. Change the money you want over there, but shop around for best exchange rates.

Eat in busy places, and drink heaps of Bintang !
The joy of being on the hill drinking beer cannot be understated

I stayed in Kuta (from memory) at the Bali Padma.
It was a bloody Palace, and from what i have heard, it has gotten better.
3 restaurants, massive pool with swim up bar, nightclub for patrons only, private beach & 2 minute walk to everything.
If it is still standing, also go to Poco Loco. It is/was a mexican restaurant with the best food i have tasted.
DO NOT drink more than 3 glasses of Arak, their white spirit. Will not elaborate.
ALWAYS check your money at changeover, those blokes even rig their calculators.
DO NOT buy wooden crap off street vendors, go to proper shops.
Drink your beers fast, they get warm quickly. Plus they are bloody cheap :D :D
Cut your hair before you go, you will thank me.

Moe, I stayed at the Padma afew years ago and it was great.

TR, make sure your mobile is set to international roaming before you go.

Make sure to tell everyone not to text or call you unless it's urgent too.

Those bastards charge both ways on international roaming.

If you take an unlocked phone with you, you can buy a prepaid sim card over there. The store owner even set the phone up for me, took about 10 minutes. It was then about 15c a minute to call back here. Certainly cheaper than international roaming using an Aussie provider.

Enjoy the heat, the pools, the bars in the pools, the other tourists and have a good look around everywhere.
Seminyak is 15 mins or so from Kuta, you go through Legian to get to Kuta from Seminyak.

i really enjoyed Legian. Real nice place!

I would love to go back there again soon. Never got to go to the water park because i was there when Bali was attacked for the 2nd time and they had it closed for the remainder of my stay there!

We left a few days before the 2nd attacks, we had dinner at Jimbaran Beach on a Saturday and I think the bombs went off the following Tuesday. Strange feeling when we were home I can tell you, bastards were probably there watching us :?

Yeah its a prick of a feeling! I was at a restaurant and got told by a mate from home sending me an SMS saying " hey mate, heard some bombs went off, hope my dvds are alrite". Took it as a joke until i heard 10 minutes later. I had just got my Garlic Prawns put on the table, had one and spat it out. I was physically ill thinking of what had happened

The cafe that was attacked, Raja's Cafe, we had a feed there around 4 hours before the bombs, and had planned to go there for dinner that night, until we realised my mates parents had booked at another place!!

The people i went with were there for both bombings!!!

You can have it disable from your phone company, I did when I went to Thailand.
Most of importance is to turn your message bank off.

Drink lots, sing loudly to Khe Sanh when pissed, visit Schapelle.
It's all the SANFL's fault.
