I just went on 2 cruises recently - one was a 15 nights with Celebrity Cruises down coast of Mexico, Central America and through the Panama Canal - was awesome

The other was a Caribbean cruise on Allure of the Seas - that boat is unreal! Would love to see it down in Australia sometime - would definitely go on it again - that thing blew me away!

It was great, I loved it, very nice get away for my partner and I. Got into Sydney this morning and we come home on the 12th. Could easily jump back on the boat and go again! But now we have to return to normal proceedings. :(

Wow, that sounds amazing mate and I'm sure it would of been, bet you didn't want to get off.

Glad you enjoyed the cruise!

I could have stayed on the Allure for weeks! It was crazy, and with a good crowd too! I'm yet to do a South Pacific Cruise, so thats next on my list

What sort of cabins do you guys go for?
The base prices advertised seem to be always for windowless inside cabins.
My research suggests something with a decent outlook for us mild claustrophobes - balcony cabins - increases the cost by 150%.
A single supplement increases it by another 175%.

You are correct Psyber.

My partner and I got an outside cabin, just preferred to have an outside cabin. It costs more than an inside cabin but having a window you can obviously get up in the morning, look at the window and see what's going on in terms of the weather and get a view of where you are. P and O's price went by inside and outside, outside costing more and the deck, our boat had accomdation on decks (inside and outside cabins) 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 (where we were), 8, 9 and 10, the higher the deck the higher the price. I think that the suites which cost about $3000/$4000 were located on deck 11. My partner and I were convinced we were upgraded, which is an option P and O gives you when you book and it's for free, so that was great.

I've had both inside and outside cabins and it doesn't make a lot of difference to me. I think it's more important to have a good position on the ship.

For example, I'd rather have an inside cabin in a quiet position near the stairs and elevator areas than an outside cabin near the bow or stern. Within one deck from the Promenade deck means you can get outside in a very quick time and it's an easy transit to the dining room :)

You're not in the cabin that much on a cruise, so I wouldn't be paying much more for an outside cabin.

As for a balcony cabin, Psyber, I can't afford one and I'll leave it for when I get older and softer ;)

PLanes crash, cars crash, trains crash, ships sink.

I'd say Costa will now be the safest line to go on after this :?

would rather crash in a plane, then sink in deep water millions of miles off a coast line. hate cruises.

My problem is a mild claustrophobia..
During my upcoming India trip I'll be sleeping in tents in tiger reserves for several nights...
I think I may give cruises a miss in favour of flying in and hopefully getting to pat a tiger! ;)

Really?! At least if a boat sinks you can swim. Can't exactly fly if a plane is crashing.

3 dead and about 40 people are still missing too...although they did find a Korean honeymoon couple still alive inside the ship last night...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-16564789

According to Sky News last night the captain and another crew member have been detained on suspicion of multiple manslaughter and abandoning a ship while passengers were still onboard...but then again it is 'Sky News' so might be a bit previous on there part and they have started the Titanic comparison aswell  IIRC a captain and crew did the same a few years back on a cruise ship that sank off the African coast.

*edit* Actually Sky might be right after all...

more chance of the plane when it lands and possibly crashes and then escaping, then a boat sinking miles of land and then you drown.......i know what i would rather do. That ship tipped on its side....and they couldnt launch the life boats!!!!. Yeah......your right.....a boat is safer  and it was only 400mtrs from land !!!

both as bad as themselves

The first cruise i went on was an inside 4 berth cabin - good cruise but the got sick of the inside cabin after a while. The last two were both balcony cabins and we loved it - i suggest look for specials with balcony cabins - we had breakfast most morning on our balcony which was much more relaxing than the madness of the buffet!

Did an Alaskan cruise for a week with Holland America. I reckon there were about 15 people under the age of 35 on there. :) I didn't care, it was still awesome.
