Auckland/Rotorua, NZ

Postby woodublieve12 » Wed Dec 05, 2012 7:52 am

I'm going to NZ at the end of next month for 5 days, 1 day in rotorua and 4 days in Auckland. Wife sorta sprung it on me last night, and booked it. very cheap return flights between $400-$500.. And to be honest i've never really had much interest in going, but now that i am, i have no idea whats to do over there and if its any good...
So i'm just wondering if anyones been there and what it's like and whats to do over there??? Like to make the most of our short trip over there...
Cheers...

I've been to Rutorua three times, you should definitely go to the Rotorua hot baths. They're great and are probably the biggest tourist attraction there.

Are you up for something a bit silly? Jump off the Sky Tower in Auckland.
Eating in Auckland - there is a district on the harbour called the Viaduct, has bars. Go for a sail. Pity the rugby has finished but see if there's any cricket being played.

even if you dont want to jump off the sky tower you can get hours of entertainment going up and watching others jump off whilst having some refreshments
the viaduct has some good eateries as MK has mentioned, also they have done up the old wharf area which is in the vicinity of the viaduct, nice for a stroll

you can do a harbour tour, climb the bridge etc, but I normally only spend a couple of days at a time in Auckland
ask me where all the pubs are and I could tell you

hey MK, bledisloe is in Wellington and Dunedin next year, our group is planning on going to Dunedin, should be great

The temptation to go home to Wellington is strong gdb but would be excellent to go to Carisbrook, the House of Pain. Will have to see how far the budget stretches as we've a number of things on next year. That's the trouble with being over in the West, everywhere is a flight and a half (except for home of course).
