Is it true?

Postby smac » Tue Jul 24, 2007 2:32 pm

It is interesting how Aussies are perceived outside of Australia. Doesn't seem too far off the mark with most criticisms either.

Oh, and there is some stuff about rugby in the article too.

Load of tripe. Talk about a whinge.

"Ohhhhh, the time zone's too tough....ohhhhh, I want to play Wales and Scotland, and bring the Argys in too, at least we know we're ALWAYS going to beat them. Unlike those whingeing Aussies who might get their sh*t together one day."

Given their track record, their the last ones that should be critical of the way other countries do things.
As far as his dig about the wave, you can bet that if people start throwing full drink bottles up in the air at South African venues, South African cricket will ban it as well.

Would suggest he's just one voice, albeit a rather loud one. Bit of pot/kettle there. And it's nothing new.

The Pumas have already been approached to play in the south anyway so not sure what the "scandalous treatment" they got from SANZAR was.

Failed to mention Sydney and Auckland in his list too. Both considered "cities of the world...."

What are you doing reading that shite anyway smac?

Another piece of shite I was reading had a link to it - that article echoed your sentiments too.

I do find it interesting to uncover perceptions though, and this one did have some valid points under the bullshit.

The problem wasn't the beer being thrown, it was the urine in the cups that was being thrown that was the problem. Would like to hear his solution to that problem other than ban the wave.

What a load of cock.

I currently live in the UK, and Aussies are received very well. From what I've seen, the perception is that we are sports mad, but in a friendly-banter kind of way. The only criticism I've heard is that we stay out on the booze too late and are noisy. Bloody Poms just can't keep up.

Living in West London, I've met a number of Kiwis and Safa's. A couple of the Safas have been great blokes with a cracking sense of humor. ALL the Kiwis have been boring, irritating ballbags with an inferiority (is that a word?) complex to the max. Basically, it seems like they think they have to act like they are better than Aussies because they have little man syndrome or something.

I hadn't really met any Kiwis before. The ones I've met over here haven't been a good rap for their country. They're a weird bunch!

HAHAHA JAFA - I like it! Fair to say there's a shoiteload of us over here.

Apparently, at any one time there are upwards of 300,000 Aussies in London. No wonder there's a pub on every corner, theres 50 Jafas on every street!

To that journalist -

What about doing something honourable IN SA for once and helping out Zimbabwe before you think further afield to Europe and scoff at Australia?

There are so many SAs getting out of that country that even the Zimbabwean refugees are struggling to replace them in number (not quite but the principle applies).

And other than rugby and to some extent Cricket, what does SA succeed in with regard to any other sports? Very little.

Talk about crime in Australia? Look at J Burg first - that city's stats are probably worse than the whole of Australia combined.

How many rugby union tests have been played in Canberra? Not many.

This guy was casting bait. Better put his name on the border watch list and make sure he doesn't get in. Send him home via Argentina.

Too right there Squawk RE: SAFAs. They're jumping ship like no-ones business.
Just about every one I've met over here has no plan (or desire) to move back.

Hmmm that's odd da. Most Aussies and Kiwis stick together like glue over there. Have you considered that you could be the common denominator?

I always consider that. I am a fair tool!

Just that I've met a few Kiwi's that have acted like they need to better everything you say. I've enjoyed hearing about other people's experiences and recommendations about what to see/do, but the Kiwi's have made it tough going. Everything is always bigger, better and more extreme, and it's always been a one way conversation - ie me getting me ear chewed off.

A Kiwi at work has gone out of his way to avoid myself and another Aussie colleague, except when the All-Blacks win. Whe they lose, he doesn't even look at us. I don't even give a toss about Rugby, and will readily acknowledge that you Kiwis are ahead of us at present.

I didn't want to generalise, so I guess I've just met a few exceptions. Nothing personal MK, I bet you've met some idiot Aussies in your time. Who knows, you might meet me one day!
