Centrebet Aussie couple $13.00 to conquer World Wife Carrying Championships!


They’ve become Australia’s Wife-Carrying champions, winning the National Titles in their own showground, now power duo Anthony Partridge and Angela Moore are rated a $13.00 chance – out of more than 50 teams from around the world – to win the prestigious 11th World Wife Carrying Championship in Sonkajarvi, Finland!

From Singleton in the NSW Upper Hunter, Anthony – a long-striding towering 195cm rugby back-rower – and Angela – tipping the scales at just 47 kgs – are the ideal combination to shake the life out of the more fancied couples, dominated by Flying Finns, although the early Centrebet $2.75 favourite is a dynamite Estonia couple!

But Centrebet media director and manager Neil Evans said the Aussies have a real chance! “The 253m long track is longer than the one in Singleton, but it’s nowhere near as tough,” Evans said.

“This track has two ‘dry’ obstacles, and a one metre water obstacle! The Australian championship course had far more hurdles and obstacles, and a much longer pool to run through! I know they’re quietly confident of upsetting the Europeans where this is considered a time-honoured continental pastime.”

“All “wives” (they don’t necessarily need to be your own) must be over 17 and a minimum of 49 kilo’s (weights can be used), so Angela might new a few plates of pasta on the way over,” Evans added. “ Any dropping of the woman commands a 15 second penalty, and a belt is the only equipment that can be worn.”

Anthony and Angela clocked 1 min 5.43 secs in winning out National title, and last year, past multiple winner Margo Uusorg and Sandra Kullas clocked an incredible 56.9 secs! “It looks like big Margo is not competing this year, but if there’s a late acceptance, the market will change.”

On Centrebet’s special finishing market, Anthony and Angela are $4.25 to finish from second to fifth, $3.00 from sixth to 10th, and $1.90 not to finish in the top 10!
