Should female tennis players playing the best of 3 sets get the same prize money as male tennis players who are playing in the same tournament but a best of 5 sets format? (eg a Grand Slam).

No.
The 3 sets vs 5 sets argument seems to be conveniently ignored by the equal pay in tennis advocates.
It's a joke that the women get the same for less work, but common sense and logic seem to disappear with such matters.

You have to look at the ave. set time played by both male and female and they would be just about the same. I can understand why people say No they shouldn't be payed the say, cause on ave men are on court longer for the match. But in this day and age, women expect to be paid the same. The grand slam events are big business, people pay the same to watch the men's final as they do to the woman's final, which could mean that woman want to get the same.

I voted no.
The top women are often on court less than an hour in grand slam matches up until the quater finals. So in essence the women may play 5 games and be on court less than 5 hours - the men can often play a round 1 match that reaches 5 hours by itself.

Other than the arguments that have already been given, if the major tournaments for women were played as stand alone events (separate dates than the men), there is no way that they would generate enough revenue to earn what they get now. You only have to look at the respective pro golf tours as an example.

Female tennis players are playing to the best of their abilities, as are the men. Should they not be entitled to the same level of payment?
This was put to me by mrs smac recently. My response was that if their best was equal then yes the pay should be equal. Until the best of womens tennis is equal to that of mens tennis, then the pay should be weighted accordingly.

Unless they play five sets.

they should just play 5 sets. that, IMO, would also even out the rankings. for instance, in a females 3 setter, if you get off to a bad start, say with 5 or 7 unforced errors that could cost her the first set, then it only takes a bit of bad luck to drop the second set and inturn, the match. whereas the men are given a lot greater chance of a comeback from a bad start.

Has anyone noticed how Grand Slam Quaters and Semis have changed over the past 6-8 years?
Tuesday used to be womans quaters
Wednesday Mens Quaters
Thursday Womans Semis
Friday Mens Semis
NOW:
They are are mixed up. I wonder why?
People who buy a ticket for centre court are forced to watch both.
