Have to give a bit of Kudos to Mark Hensby on his comments regarding Greg Norman and his lack of involvement with Australian golf these days.
While I have been sympathetic to Norman in the past that Australian tournaments have clashed with Thanksgiving (His family are American of course), His children's graduations from high school and college, other family events, etc, etc I feel Norman has to have a more hands on approach with Australian golf to really help out and not just throw money at it and then turn around and say "I'm doing my bit". As some of you may be aware, Greg Norman would now be one of the wealthiest people in the history of sports mainly due to his ever expanding business empire. His strain of grass that he created is used by all MLB and NFL teams that have grass surfaces in their stadiums. Him even chucking a million dollars a year would still only be the equivalent of one of us buying a couple of footy club memberships each year.
Hensby is unlikely to make friends out of this but as our best performed player in the four major championships this year, I'm glad he had the gumption to say it because I bet there would be other top ranking players who agree with him.

Sorry ORDB but I have to disagree with you there ... Year in year out we hear the same complaints about Greg Norman ... The bloke has done PLENTY for the sport and the country, and why the responsibility appears to have fallen solely upon his aging shoulders is beyond me??

This is, and has been for quite sometime imho, one of the more obvious cases of the ever present Aussie culture of "Tall Poppy Syndrome"...

Greg Norman is a legend of not just Australian golf, but world golf. How many courses has he designed and built here? How many players were inspired to pick up a golf club as a result of his feats? He has helped so many of the countries young players with their technique and course management. He has thrown so much money into the sport in this country he has virtually single handedly kept it alive. Who is Mark Hensby anyway? Some young guy who will be like any Aussie golfer in recent years - promise a lot and do nothing. Lucky we have Adam Scott.

I can assure you that I am a fan of Greg Norman and I was as upset for him as anyone when like a lot of others, I got up at 4.00 in the morning to watch the final round of the '96 US Masters thinking that it would be a foregone conclusion and it would finally be his time.
I am really getting at the last five years in particular now that his children are grown up but I do realise he has had injury problems in that time. Just felt that it was dissappointing that he was out here anyway this week to have a look at a golf course he designed close to the Open site.

What more does Greg Norman have to do?

The man is 50 and has effectively been retired for the past five years or so.

Hell, if it wasn't for Greg Norman Australian golf and the Australian tour would have collapsed years ago.

Reakon this goes beyond golf to the whole 'welfare mentality' of this country.
