Series loss to the Tall Blacks.

Coming after our worst Olympics performance in years.

Boy Goorj to be sacked any day now.

Yeah, right...

I was thinking the same thing last night, MP. Weren't the knives all directed toward Phil Smyth when he lost to NZ as Australian coach? He was certainly not blessed with the supposed talent that Goorj had in this series either.

With the players we have, we should have won the series. But this is what happens when you let teams from NZ into the Aussie Leagues.

Absolutely, smac!

Phil Smyth was crucified by the eastern media and hung out to dry by Basketball Australia.

First up Phil had to contend with mass retirements after the Sydney Olympics - Gaze, Bradtke, Vlahov and Heal, the backbone of the national squad for over a decade, all gone overnight.

Then, to make matters worse, we were cut down by injuries before that series loss to the Tall Blacks.

New Zealand finished fourth at those World Championships - but to listen to the hysterical media over here, you'd think the Dream Team had just got rolled by Angola.

And we won't dare mention Boy Goorj's puzzling coaching during the 2004 Olympics...

funny listenin to phil smyth last nite on kg's ....

so the usual will happen this year ... boomers will fail at the worlds brian keeps his job

if the opals fail to get to the final jan stirling will get sacked....

as a former 36ers told me .. brian is just so INTENSE 24/7 on basketball... if this former 36ers played under him at sydney he said this would shorten his playing career but probably increase his chances to play at the worlds later this year

Fair's fair, dinga...

Nobody uses the word "thing" like Boy Goorj.

Mind you, I think he toned it down after copping so much from Boti Nagy.

And this New Zealand team won't go on to finish 4th at the worlds like the previous one Smyth came up against.
