2016 Rio De Janerio Olympics

Postby BenchedEagle » Sat Oct 03, 2009 9:34 pm

What do u think?

i knew Chicago or Madrid wouldnt get it. i put a small wager on Sportsbet on Tokyo at 10/1. Wrote of Rio and they were at 50/1 i think at one stage. Should have put a lazy 10 on! forgot that South America had never hosted the games before!

I need to do some reading on the current state of Rio, but i do believe it is deep in poverty and crime in some parts. be an interesting games to follow in the lead up.

Obviously not putting my heart and soul into winning a particular site for the future olympic site, I couldn't really give a rats clacker.

However..... I know that it means a lot to the particular site involved because they DO put their heart and soul into winning, not just personally, but financially as well.

Enjoy RdeJ, I'm sure you've got time to build, hide, organise and promote accordingly.

i think its funny that the yanks did not get it, and arent the media lapping it up in North America saying that the OEC is or have a hatread towards americans and they are taking all the sports they are good at out. i.e. Baseball/Softball etc.

I'm suprised theAmericans didn't get it. I guess thier "gifts" to the selection committee weren't as good as the Brazillians.

Was certainly surprised the Yanks didn't get it 'cos after Atlanta getting it in '96 just after Los Angeles in '84 thought it would be in US at least once every 20 years.

I think a lot of IOC members are still a little weary of the USA bids after the whole Salt Lake bribe fiasco and the Atlanta games were a bit of a mess. I think the got the final 2 right as Rio and Madrid both had very good bids for the athletes and offered a very compact games. After watching the presentations I would have put my money on Madrid. Either way I am looking forward to going to the games
