Currently leads the INDYCAR championship by 4 points from Dario. He has pole for this weekends event at Chicago.
Could be win the championship? After all these years of swapping and changing and having huge/spectacular accidents that lead to fireballs and a shower of debre.
Here's hoping.
But it's a case of Will who? Or is it?
I don't think the general public would know that an Aussie is gearing up to take an American crown in motorsport. One of the biggest too.

Sadly, I think it's the fact that Briscoe hasn't raced V8's which has led to the lack of coverage of his excellent performances this year...

Briscoe has raced V8's. Just not full-time.
But it's even the front page of Motorsport News and Auto Action or even Autosport on the shelves that has led me to wonder whether INDYCARS are the forgotten league of international motorsport due to all the hoooha over the past few years.
I've always wanted to do something about the coverage of Aussies racing overseas. Pity I'm too lazy.
Daniel Riccardo. Sam Abey.....John Martin.....etc etc.
I like Sam, he's a good bloke who did well in Porsche 944 in Victoria. His dad has a handful of special connections. And knows what he is doing.

I think Briscoe may have raced once, maybe twice for HRT two or three years back (co-drove enduros IIRC).
To anyone but true motorsport enthusiasts, he is an unknown in Australia.
If Ambrose had gone to Indycars, then he'd still be getting front pages on Auto Action. It's not the series, it's Briscoe's non-Aus history which has led (sadly) to him being ignored by Australian media...
Are the Indycar races shown on Fox?

Yes he partnered Jim Richards for Sandown and Bathurst with HRT for 2006.
If I remember correctly. He did make the front cover of Auto Action for his A1GP drive where he finished on the podium. I can't remember whether this was our first podium. Sounds like it would have been.
But it is a crying shame about the coverage.
I suppose you are right with your post below. You build a cult following in V8's and then that media follow that cult overseas and then start to claim things as "V8 Supercar driver shows those Americans whose boss at Watkins Glen" or something to that nature.
Nothing gets on my nerve more than Tony Schebeci (cant spell his name) for SEN. He just sits there on his little chair and gets others to run around and organise the interview. Then makes silly comments while punting on his TAB account. Acts all important when Webber gets hit by that truck. First reports...... were worse than the actual reports. V8s were on in Tasmania then too. Ambrose paid a visit and was a hero amongst all. Nice fella.
GRASS ROOTS motorsport needs more. And we need LESS V8 Supercar garbage.
Auto Action. Motorsport News. Should be V8 Action. V8 News. .... we already have V8X. At least they were decent enough to put it out there that they just cover V8s mainly.
Do you remember the two Will's fighting it out in Australian Formula Ford. Will Power and Will Davison. Of course. One was an international superstar the other just another Aussie in V8 Supercars. Webber didn't really do that well in Formula Ford. But then again he didn't spend that much time in Australia.
Getting back to Daniel Ricciardo. Winning the F3 Euroseries championship against some handy types.
Yet no-one except Perth seems to care. Perth boy of course.
Off track again.
I don't know if the IndyCars are on Foxtel.
I love motorsport. But I ramble.

I should have mentioned that Ryan Briscoe won Chicago and has stretched his lead to 25 points.
Read this for a leading sentance:
Ryan Briscoe beats Scott Dixon to the checkered flag by 0.0077 of a second.
