Why doesn't channel 7 show evening Aussie Open games live?

Why the heck not damnit? We're in a different state, Federer is playing and they beam it in on delay, while Foxtel goes to the trouble of showing the leftovers live to air. For all the bagging of pay TV for "taking sports away from the masses" at least they can offer the ****ing coverage when they're supposed to. Channel 7 has been a major offender for a long time - the Beijing Olympics were a disaster with several key events delayed and some not shown at all. Sorry but times have changed, it's not 1999 anymore. We should expect better, I know I damn well do.

Federer game was delayed by 1/2 hour. The time on the clock exactly matched our time in SA - hence 1/2 hour delay.

It's typical from channel 7...

I am a Crows Supporter living in Melbourne.. last year when Crows played Richmond @ AAMI on a Friday night - the game was on an hour delay..   Give me PAY TV any day of the week.

I agree with you it's not right. I have a pet hate of FNF that goes to 11.30pm when the game finished around 9.40pm.

C7 would say it's purely a business decision - apparently $$ rates for advertising normally drop off after 10.30pm. However, if they are continuning coverage of an event that started earlier (ie, football, tennis) they are able to maintain the pre 10-30pm advertising rates for longer than normal.

PLUS they get to show their normal, high rating shows from 6 - 8.30 and rake in their normal advertising dollars as per usual. On top of that, despite what us sports fan would expect, shows like Home & Away and Better Homes & Gdns rate better than the footy in those prime time-slots (and so bring in more advertising $$). So because they know that most sports fans will watch (grudgingly) in delay the decision's an easy one for them.

It's all about the moolah and they'd say that they paid so much for the TV rights that they should be allowed to show the games at times that best suit them financially.

Not that I agree with them.

Doesnt bother me too much, whats half an hour?? While we're on the tennis, Im sorry but I struggle to sit through a game a womens tennis after watching a guys hit the ball like Federer did last night. Baseline to baseline, barely any players come to net and few show the grit to chase down shots ala Hewitt, Federer. Sexist? Maybe. Realist who likes being entertained? Yes.

They even get it live in Melbourne. And yet we get it on delay. :?
