Aussie Open Chasing Woods

Postby Drop Bear » Tue Dec 09, 2008 1:32 pm

I think Tiger would definately be worth paying big bucks to lure here. It would at least triple the gate takings and give the Aussie Open more international exposure. I for one would consider heading over to watch, potentially the greatest golfer the world has ever seen.

Any thoughts?

I was in Orlando 2 years ago while the Disney tournament was on, and Tiger pulled out the day before it started. It totally swayed my plans, I ended up not going.

I am a 1-2 game per month golfer, and love the game.

I think the amount of interest he would bring would more than offset the potential 'appearance costs'.

It's rumoured to be around the $4 million mark.

I'd certainly pay to go over and watch, unless you are planning to go OS it would probably be your only chance to ever see him play live if you are a big golf fan.

Which would be a massive investment that may or may not bring a return in the following years for the tournament.

I like Woods, but frankly it's pure greed asking for that kind of money (even $1M is huge) just to show up.
Sure it might be his 'market' rate and perhaps he donates a lot of it charity(?), but still.

Where are they gonna get that kind of money anyway?

The enterance fee would sky rocket and be out of reach of average golf fan if he does come out.

When the big overseas players came out many years ago, they probably didn't have an appearance fee, and if they did it wasn't as big as Woods.

Thats true but at this stage in his career his time = money, and like they say the more you earn the more you spend. I can't blame the guy really.

It would be interesting to see what they would charge. It was $30 for GA at this year's tournament. I think you'd be looking at about $50-$60 if Woods was coming. I'd still pay that no worries at all. The biggest problem would be the size of the gallery!

I'm going on what happened when he played out here last time, prices went up heaps just to cover the appearance fee of about $4 million.
