Chasing Carp well sort of

Ok so today was the big day .And yes it was a failure I do think its to early for Carp just yet even with a 20 C day the fish didn't appear to be around .
The major problems the wind a 15 to 20 knot blowing from the wrong direction.And it didn't appear to help when I crossed sides or crossed the road rather .
And everyone was correct bread did attract ducks and the water hens.the water hen was the only thing that chased my flies.But the worst thing attracted was a big dirty "water" rat(brown body a white mark on its tail tip) .stopped me going in one direction sorry I fear snakes but I hate detest go all funny with Rats .I didn't think they'd be in the water mid morning but it was .at least the snakes were still asleep they will be moving soon .
So from today I lost 2 flies to snags .Will need to get more flies I do tie my own salt water flies but haven't tried a fresh fly just yet .Perhaps I need to join a club .And it seems harder in the fresh than in the salt.Mind you if it want polluted I would have been wading and not on the bank fight trees and dying reeds(they do that in winter in oz).Was a lovely morning for a 2 hour walk .Made it back to mum and dads and had fathers day lunch with dad (fathers day tomorrow but I am going to the football) and before we had lunch mum dragged me off for another 20 minute walk in the other direction.Saw one or two more spots to try in coming weeks .

And I tried to take a picture of some wild ducks and ducklings but by the time I had the camera out they were a bit far away but it does show the river.

Not far from Rowells Road SAJBC .
I went past Rowells Road when I realised the reeds were getting thicker .Not to mention that bloody Rat again
Felt like I was going to make it to the Sea over the next rise

OK, I saw a few people out fishing in the wetlands behind Kidman Bridge (Henley Bch Rd), and just beyond yesterday whilst walking with the kids....

If I ever see someone fly fishing I'll assume it's you and say hi !!

Sweet photo of the ducklings. Don't blame you for hating the rats...they don't call Weil's disease the fisherman's disease for nothing...evil bloody creatures (errr rats, not fishermen that is ) then again we don't have quite the same trouble with snakes...ours rarely kills.

Maybe you should start your own club...SAFooty AA (Angler's Anonymous)

Even though you didn't catch anything still sounds like it was a good day....better luck next time...looking forward to the piccies of the performing fish again.

Well I was invited to submit an article for an online fishing mag.Mind you the fish for me have dried up since then Very hard to write an articulate piece when you dont even catch a cold
But you dont know me magpies .I went for months weekend after weekend before I started posting of SA Footy trying to catch a Bream . hell long time fly fishers kept saying it will happen and it did .And once I did no stopping me know I wish to go back to my fishing roots .CARP CARP CARP
Mock me if you wish .Becasue I get that a lot one day I'll start posting pics of Carp and Bream etc.Again !!!

Sorry guys I get obsessed by things Fishing fishing and footy not to forget wrestling and fishing and footy .

My comp has died so I am replying on a different PC.
Tried Friday morning lost 1 fly to a snag.Then went for a walk to another spot.On the way to the next hole I spotted some circles in the water and a rooster started crowing. looked at the fence the rooster call came from .When all of a sudden the water erupted to a jumping large carp.I just caught a glimpse and stopped learned on the fence at the top of the bank .There was no way with my bad legs that I could get down that bank.So with no more jumping fish I headed for hole number 2. Nothing nada .So with the wind picking up I headed back to hole number one .I crossed back to the other side of the river at this stage .And you gussed it a large carp jumped again at the same spot .Not sure if it was trying to eat a duck or something but it was large .
So back I came to spot one realsed some more bread crumbs and commercial burley nothing .saw some circles under an overhanging tree and while trying to cast .You guessed it at my feet in the water there goes the top of a small carp doing a uturn .
So that was my friday rdo 2 hours spent no carp hooked but i did get to see some this time.

Thanks Jas I still have to work out two things .First thing being Dry flies and the use of them .And sight fishing for Carp .all of which I will workout .Was going to look up the fresh water club but work got in the way.Its only very early in the season yet so lots more time to hunt the buggers !!

We got a new series on over here...Robson Green's Extreme Fishing or something like that. Last night he was in Louisiana and went carp fishing with a couple of red-necks. They caught them by firing at them from a boat with a bow and arrow...at night.

After talking about being part native american and how it's the way they were caught for hundreds of years...they go out in a boat with a motor, a 3 million candlepower spotlight and the highest tech bow and arrow I've ever seen. Even Robson commented that it's not really the same as the indians might have done...although they did catch some.

Might be an idea for you if those dry flies don't work out

Hey Micky, did you think about whether a carp would take a fly? I thought they were bottom feeders, although I have spotted them at the surace a couple of times and they used to eat floating bread at the Botanic Gardens.

Thats the trick to get them up on the surface.I was using Bread last week but the ducks and water rats seemed to enjoy it more .Was perhaps to early in the year last week this week the wind was against me .the bait guys are catching them on bread /corn and or Worms .
I have bought some carp flies from an online Ebay store .and guess what the number one carp fly is in the world its a BREAD FLY or even a Corn fly funny that .The number one and two baits for them are bread and corn .Dont ask me how they make either !!!

Of course I am supposed to be sight fishing for them as well. And the correct way to sight fish for the Carp is to walk along and either see the fish or the dirt cloud they make while bottom feeding .then you are supposed to cast in or near the dirt cloud with a nymph fly or woolly bugger fly.

Now as you can tell I have done some internet research .Funny thing to me I have seen internet pics of very large Carp taken in the USA.The angler standing in front of bright clear water ,how the hell do they keep the water clean with Carp in it !!!!

The only ones I came close to seeing were just visible as circles then a mighty big jump.And of course I was standing a top of a bank that was very tall and steep.the one at my feet I could just see its back .

It took me a while to work out Bream wont be long before I am riding this pest from our water ways

Jas I have heard about guys here in OZ chasing them with a bow and Arrow as well.
Did you know in some place in the states they call Carp Kansas Bonefish in referance to Tarpon /Bone fish due to the fact that both fish species fight very much the same .and no I haven't caught a Tarpon either

Well i used to catch so many on bread in the Torrens and a fair few in the Murray it was to easy . Once when my teenagers were little kids and we holidaying on the murray I was having a fish .these young guys were laughing at me sitting there throwing bread out and having a kids float.
After about the sixth fish I heard one turn to his mate and say tomorrow you buy the bread and I'll buy the floats .Those were fun times.
