Peter Brock vs Alan Moffat

It was an interesting feeling watching this clip as it brought back some of the memories of actually watching it when it happened.

Brocky will always be remembered as the greatest ever Bathurst driver of the era when the Bathurst was one of the greatest motor races, yet I have to admit that Alan Moffat didnt seem to do so bad either and the XA GT is one nice looking and clearly well performing machine!

I admit a slight Holden bias at the time. I'd had an HK 327 Monaro for a while and was only beginning to move towards smaller higher revving and better handling options. I think that was about that time I had, first, the Datsun Fair Lady, then a 260Z, and was just beginning to think European. The Monaro was good at straight acceleration and cruising, and so long as the bends weren't too sharp. It shimmied a bit over 160 kph though.

i remember both drivers as a kid. as ive grown up with motorsports i now have a better appreciation for both. moff apparently had a major fear issues every time he raced, to the point of having to sit in the car for about an hour before hand to focus on whats ahead and convince himself he is good enough not to die. where as brock had an amazing ability to put any car exactly where he wanted it at ridiculous speeds. i once had the pleasure of seeing him speak and speaking to him afterwards, his biggest "quirk" to me was turning his rear view mirror around when someone was behind him so he didnt have to bother with blocking or taking the slower defensive lines.
great clip, brings back heaps of memories

You have to admit that there is just something special about hearing a 1970's 351 Clevland V8 or a 308 Holden or even a Triple Webbered 265 Hemi screaming its guts out down Conrod Straight! 8)
