well hes been no.2 for 150 odd weeks behind fed ex who has been no. 1 for 230 odd weeks, so to be no. 2 for that long I would have thought he was the real deal a long time ago.

Despite winning all majors on clay before this morning he was still gettin into finals, semi finals of other majors and to have that ability to do that consistently then yes he is the real deal.

Would have cracked the top spot if it wasn't the greatest ever (IMHO) holding him at bay.

Conversely Federer would have had the grand slam and beaten Sampras' record by now if he didn't happen to run into the greatest clay courter of all time.

Tennis is probably at its most competetive in years. Would love to see Roddick and Safin get up there to challenge while Murray looks to be pretty good as well. Wouldn't mind seeing a net player, but I think the way the top echelon hit passing shots we'll have to contend with all court players like Federer.

But to answer, yes he is absolutely the real deal. One of the greats I think already, and only injury will prevent him also reaching double figure grand slam wins.
