Well after a donut Australia Day , I decided to try a new beach at west lakes .But the car decided to park itself at the northern car park. :o ;D
So after checking wind direction I walked down to settlers drive beach and started to wade .This was just after 7am . :)
By 8.20 I was thinking of walking to the other side of the lake and trying my luck there.I was getting no interest what so ever and drifted off into my thoughts when BANG I am on. And a small Bream was soon on the grass after a short but very nice fight .During which I thought I had lost the fish twice but he was playing dead.
Filled with hope I continued on the same beach .The same thing happened gain shortly afterwards in a different spot drifting in my thoughts when bang I am on again ,but lost this one.
All went quiet again so i moved on and once again while watching some kayakers bang I am on and off again .
So moving again I noticed a giant knot in my mono and thought it was time to go home .
Couple of things from today's session .It was like winter on the water this morning [smiley=frown.gif] very cold wind blowing ,at least it was in the right direction.
And the fish they were not in the deeper water but all my hits and the one fish were caught in the sandy sections between the seaweed patches. Go figure nothing out deep at all hungry :o .
heres the fish

Cheers

Can't believe I only just found your fishing log! Love the write up of each session, but question your sanity fly fishing for hours for a few measly bream. Each to their own however, and I admire the fact that you aren't too results driven like some fisherman but enjoy the experience.

My last satisfying fish wasn't a large haul either but was great because my secret spot on the Streaky Bay jetty proved its merit. I took my missus' little sister down there and caught a KG whiting and a good sized flathead in ten minutes. All the other idiots were fishing right off the end and just catching shitties...fools.

Bream are a very hard fish to catch on a Fly believe me.
I once read on a fly fishing forum that fly fishing is the hardest way to catch a fish .but there's nothing like feeling that fish on the end of the line .
Don't forget I have tied the fly that caught most of those fish .
Just don't show a pro tier :)
Did I write up about the friendly bream fishing comp I was in the other week between 9 guys .There were two of us fly guys we both knew we would get creamed .I managed a 26.5 cm bream got me fifth spot and you know I out fished some much better lure fishermen who got 0.
And i had a fish of around 40cm (i was standing on the concrete steps watching it) on monday swim up take my fly and spit it straight away .
But thats fly fishing.

The best part of fly fishing no European wasps trying to sting me to death like when i bait fish.

Cheers

PS
Us over 40 guys enjoy standing in the water it takes the arthritis pain away from our old knees :)

Just to add a little bit more and get my post count up  .
Since I started wading a few weeks back I have enjoyed the fighting qualities of Bream much better than when i was catching them standing on the shore .
And the other week the fish that actually stripped line from my fly reel and snapped the 6lb leader made my heart pump.

And just on a side note some days the only guy catching Bream at the are some asian aussies(non racial coment ). If you get to talk to them like I have from time to time you learn that they catch them on crabs .And some like me dream of catching a Mulloway .

In fly fishing to get one fish is an achievement .and all fish are catch and released even the odd legal I get .

Plus the wife enjoys the non bait smelling hubby after.

cheers

I tried fly fishing a couple of times back home for a few trout in the Wakefield. Even tried tying a few of my own flies with peacock feathers, magpie feathers and nail varnish. Needless to say I caught nothing. Back to the old trusty spinner lure. Well done for catching some on your own flies.

It would want to be a rabbit sized fly to get a jewie though!

Had a small schoolie attempt to take a fly thats a cross between a insect and crab back when I first started .I stayed in that spot casting and casting for about an hour before I worked out it was not coming back .

Sorry Andy I had two big donut days last weekend :( .i think I had two tail spits on both days and that was it .I saw the bloody fish ok but they didn't wish to play .
Sunday the weather was very humid in the morning . I was standing in the water on one section of beach around 7 7.30 . And all these circles appeared. And i thought fish you beauty  then i realised it was raining .funny thing was the rain was hotter than the lake water i was standing in . go figure on a still humid day i was wishing for a strong wind to stir the fish up!!
funny old weekend .
Don't despair i will try again on the weekend and I am on leave most of march pics will be posted .

Cheers
And get out there and try fly fishing guys and gals.
