yeah last season you'd think...don't think they'd sack him but I would not be surprised if he walked. Clearly his care factor is zero.

I think its time to Phil to move on, didn't have the cattle last year so the jury was out but has the cattle this year for poor results, nothing against the guy as a coach, he's fantastic IMHO but perhaps getting a bit stale with the 36ers needing a fresh face. Wait till the end of the season though.

How many changes do you think are needed?
During the run from 46-31 to half time (six minutes & change) there were four subs made, while Chappel sat on the bench in foul trouble

I think Smyth's (perceived) malaise is reflected in the whole league.
I went tonight to the Dragon's first win (102-90) and couldn't get
a match day program or anything similar produced by the Dragons.
Ronaldson was the only Breaker player I knew.
The marketing department of the NBL (That's an oxymoron!) are
doing a wonderful impersonation of a magician doing a disappearing trick.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Reakon it's fair to say that NBL is more than filling the void left by the old NSL administration as...

The worst run national league in the country.

Basketball is barely an afterthought these days.

But hey - let's expand the comp!

Again and again. And again...

Sadly, I reckon you're spot on there MP ... It's a shame, the NBL in full flight is/was great to watch.

This is off-topic but picking up some of the comments should basketball go back to a winter season in Australia? There may be footy on but there's also less non-sporting events on or people on holidays

Interesting idea about moving basketball to winter, Hondo. Only thing I do see a big issue in is losing a number of fans to AFL, either via direct attendance, or on Fox. At least in summer, the direct, local rivals on Fox are a bit more limited.

NBL is at an interesting stage at the moment. Free to air limited to one hour a week, although The Tiser does a great job in keeping the word out there. Wonder if any AFL clubs have explored the idea of a joint venture with NBL clubs at a more direct level (eg. Essendon taking naming rights in return for financial support of a Vic club), to take advantage of 12 monthly exposure of their product? The Melbourne Bombers, in red and black for example, has an intriguing ring to it.

I had season tickets for the 36'ers, until they changed to a summer comp. It was a good night out during footy season, too much else on in the summer months for me to bother with it.

Only see scores for the NBL when I check out this forum occasionally.

has MP has suggested

back in the 80'/90's it was the in thing to be seen at the basketball

now the A League has taken that mantle..

its time for the NBL to re invent itself or it will end up like the old baseball national league we had in the 90's

If they did this it would make the A-League and the Cricket as the only mainstream national summer sports on show. Winter there is AFL, VFL, SANFL,WAFL, NRL, ARU, associated rugby leagues, Netball, State Football (soccer) leagues makes for a fair bit of competition...

But if they continue on the current path, the Sixers could investigate a return to Apollo Stadium...
