SA mens team but in a gallant effort against a well drilled Queensland unit who will go on to win the final against the boys from Hutt Valley.

Now onto cheering on the girls to hopefully get them & MG a win!

The St Brendans style bender begins for the guys tho...

Flinders O Neils 2010...The longest surviving club in SA. Lets open a real debate topic. Rhys Townsend, Todd Mcsorely, Ben Djumovic, Daniel Della Verde...4 certain starters who dont play for SA at Nationals.
TOPIC OPEN!!!!!!!! Enough fluff on this site. Todd and Rhys are Gabe Phillipses midfield equals, Della was the best forward in the whole comp in 07, if in doubt ask Gabe!
My question is...Why dont FON have Reps at the Nationals???????

As prev stated the boys ended up going down to Qld in the semi by 8 pts on Friday (Qld went on to win the comp in double extra time against Wellington) Couldnt question the boys spirit, effort and committment over the week However at the end of the day we werent good enough over the entire match and if we are really honest with ourselves we didnt give ourselves the best opportunity with numbers on the track leading up to the championships. Nevertheless i dont think week was a step back and fingers crossed the 17 or so players from this week go on again next year.

Now the good news..!!

We had 4 reps in the All Australasian team: Wade Saunders, Chris Carey, Johnny Pegoraro (in his first senior c'ships) & Matt Whitford.

They also announced the Player of the championships who was.....MATT WHITFORD. What an unbelievable effort and hopefully this is some compensation for his horrific injury suffered on thursday. Perhaps Major Gun or WW could correct me but i believe Whitto is the first Mens player from SA to win this award since 1983. Well done mate.

I will let Major Gun speak for the girls but they were gallant in defeat but couldnt put the points on the board when they were in control.

Whitto is a good and as humble a champion and player and bloke as you could ever want. Well done M.Whitford (and ill never forget the day you asked me.."Do you even know my real name"....and now for whatever its worth you will always be one of those names i dont leave out of stories)
To answer the question, this is what i know to the best of my memory....
Last Senior SA Footballer to be crowned best player in AUSTRALASIA was Neil "da wild ting" O,Rielly On OCT 4th or 5th 2001.( I have footage)
To see an SA player win that title then you would then need to go back 27 years or more.
In Minor football the sucees has been so very rich and enjoyable to be involved with...
I will not talk about those who have been robbed coz me and jase so shoulda won one, but ;)
2003 AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPIUON PLAYER - TOM GREENSHIELDS
2000 " " " - ANDREW LADHAMS
1987 " " " - SEAN SINFIELD (thats sinfield not seinfeld)
1983 " " " - The Great PAUL BLUTE playing seniors in the same year....The last time we won a Senior Title
1982 " " " - Neil Cross ( yes ABC News)
However that Whitto with back to back SA Senior mens B+F gongs and a player of the national tournament. Thats just Very Very Good

Daniel Della Verde still hasn't been cleared to play in the state leauge comp this year so wouldn't qualify for the state team. Not sure whether he'll be able to suit up for us this season, fingers crossed

We have recruited quite well over the off season as well as keeping all our players from last season. We have over thirty players keen on playing.

Our recruits include a number of current super and premier league soccer players, a former a league player, a former north adelaide sanfl player and a mail medalist..... \

How are the other sides looking?

Will be a big season. Now only 8 men's teams. Hopefully the talent for Brisbane in 2011 is on show in both forms of game.

With a week and a day until Round 1 i was wondering if the draw was going to be released before next friday
Its not like footy where we all know we are playing on a Saturday at 2.20  Games are on different days and at considerably different times. Most players in the league have things like..... Jobs, Families, Partners, Clashing Sports, Social lives, Church, Functions, UFC PayPerViews and other varied factors to consider and work around.
Im sick of being asked by everyone including several other clubs when will the draw be done and available. With upto 8 new players at my club this year its an embarassment that we cant tell new players when they need to play or organise leave time from the other commitments in their lives. .... Try organising time off of work without actual dates. Not too many Bosses like that
Its not the DaVinci code. I run a 6 team comp in a rival sporting code and it takes me nearly a whole hour to do my 15 week draw.

Hopefully most teams will enbrace the concept of 15 a side (real gaelic) so that we can continue to develop gaelic in this state to a point where we can win an Australasian title.

One would assume that this post is meant to be motivational and not insulting. Im well aware of your Gaelic Statistics MBK and know that you play mens football. This is where you would be hoping we will have National sucess soon. But prior to your debut a young man named Michael "Malthome" Lawlor coached the 2008 SA Womens Team to the National Title. The States first ever Womens Title at the Australasian Championships.
Apart from that we went 16 years until 2003 when a team tipped to finish bottom, the S.A Minors defeated a team going for 3 in a row (Aucland) in Sydney at the Australasian Championships. This team led by Captain Tom Greenshields went on to 3PEAT. THATS AUSTRALASIAN TITLES IN 03,04 AND 05!
We have won quite a few mate. Im sure it was just an oversight and not meant to be dismissive of the value of the titles won by the Women and Minors.
YES I TOO WOULD LOVE NOTHING MORE THAN THE MEN WINNING THE AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP BUT THERE ARE SEVERAL AREAS WE WOULD NEED TO DEVELOP.
Just to show i still love you Milky. Yes, i hope all games are 15 a side in all codes this year ;)

No insult at all to our competitions. The game in our state is more advanced than in any other state (minus irish backpackers) which is a tribute to te past & present board members. But I believe the move to 15 a side is going to be benificial to our game & something that i can see as achievable for most clubs.
I think the national title won by M Lawlor is a true tribute to the gaelic mind that is M Lawlor. As for the coach that took the minors to three in a row... ;)

First 2 rounds posted to the website, the rest to be posted in its usual beautiful format when the GFHASA Webmaster returns from New Zealand, which is on Saturday 15 October, about 10 hours before St Brendans round 1 opener!

Swooper, Major Gun (and i suppose even MBK if we need some filler) feel free to write up some reviews of the teams performances and best players, and they can also be added to the website.

Great to see the new side Port initiated with a 9:15 game Friday round one

They play Callington in a trial this week so we will see how they go

In reference to Wristwatcher lets just make this is a Sunday comp, find another venue and get on with it

Not sure if i agree with turning it into a sunday only comp. I love the friday night games which give you the rest of the weekend off. They are also significantly cooler in summer (less sunny for the pale people out there  ) & there is less chance that you have not 'over hydrated' the night before.
Also the logistical problems in finding another venue without a cricket pitch & the payments that would be involved with the lease of another ground. Which would ultimately drive up rego prices & I don't think you'd want to deal with that backlash
