Western Ireland have a few key outs with mitch portlock starting his family and taking the year off overseas.

ins always talk but a few names that have been thrown up are Colville, Mcgregor, Kluzek, Reever is keen again, also a few guns from Shocs coming out.

How are other clubs looking for the new season a month out from the start?

2 new mens teams should be pretty interesting....

For our part we have had the usual influx of players wanting to play gaelic for the first time, trouble is they all usually last about 2 weeks!!......

I'd expect a similar Na Fianna side to the one seen last year, but as with every season there may be one or two new faces. Seeing our 'big' recruits of the last two years have been Jolly & Bryant, we can only go up from here.
Still in talks with an ex Australian goalkeeper tho

The Taints brainstrust has spent most the off season trying to lure players to the SA State Team - and so havent done much "list management" work for the Taints 3peat campaign as yet! We will get Millsy back to the playing ranks (unless he is used to the relaxed pace of purely coaching) and we should get more games out of Linc Rogers this year than we did last. Lushy is going around again, in fact i dont think anyone has indicated that they wont be back for 2010/2011.

Plus with the largest number of Taints players going away to NZ on the State Trip in recent memory, a few of our boys should be firing and ready to get straight into it come round 1. Which will hopefully help us with our notoriously awful (and often humerous) starts to the season!

Should be a cracking season IMHO!

Wrist watcher you'll be happy to know Todd "Love Child" McSorley is now Filinders O'Neills captain, with Forum pest Neville Bartoss taking the reigns as mens coach......can the Flinders Premiership dry spell be broken....I'd say not, but you wouldn't want to ref our lot!!

Good call on Todd "Wristys Juddy" Mcsorely but i only gave him votes when he deserves them. If you have him in every game you will clearly have that dead ball kicker that makes you an attacking threat every week. Hope to also see Rhys Townsend back in the midfield mix with him. Another guy i enjoy watching up close.
Not sure what your talkin about re the reffing. Some of the things i liked about reffing involved FON. ie. Paddy Mcguiness always fills out the team sheet correctly and has it ready and is yet in many years of reffing his team to give me the oh so often heard "shit sorry mate its not ready,can i hand it in later". Also always look forward to the banter present at a Flinders game and the fact that you boys can be pr*cks on the field but still up for a beer and a chat after the game.
In regards to the referees i wont be doing any games if the commitee doesnt learn from its mistakes from last year and according to my calculations there must be about 15 refs in the association now.
Its my understanding the you are on the commitee now (my sources may be wrong) but if this is the case then allow me to put forward the idea that the ref co-ordinator (for mens football)needs to be a male who has played Mens Gaelic Football and also be present for junior/unqualified referees first few games to help facilitate there transformation from nervous whistle blower to confident consistent decision maker. This does not mean flying in people from round Australia at great expense but using the resources you have available to you in S.A

Rhys IMO is the best player in the league....he is better at Gaelic than he is at Soccer where he is in the top 5 Strikers in the Super league...

Well speaking of top 5. Id assume that would have to be last years 3 X GF teams St.B,Onkas and dual runner up W.I. The team that led at half time in both their semis; Na Fianna. Perenially strong starters Liverpool..oops i mean Flinders. Thats 5. Which i guess suggests that I.A will occupy their oh to familiar role of cellar dweller. In the bottom half that leaves the 2 new teams Rosys and Port along with last years virgins Mitcham. Is this what your suggesting MR Gunn??? Am i close?
Wristys tip from the rough is for the all new team from the Port led by young Stevie Ray Clay to make the finals in their debut season.

My $0.02 worth - I think Onkas minus Gabe could be a tougher opposition (in 15 a side anyway). I dont mean any dissrespect to him as he is arguably the best player in the comp but for a team with a lot of good players Onkas did become very 1 dimensional last year. And as the finals series showed if you can go someway to nullifying him (which is a very tough ask) Onkas didnt really seem to have a plan B.

State team fly out to NZ on Sunday. Hopefully they have internet access over there so we can provide daily results.

Yes the State Team accomadation has internet access, and im bringing my laptop - so unless someone unplugs the long extension cord that supplys Middle Earth with electricity then these pages should provide the outside world (or the 7 people that read this thread) with an informative travel diary of the trip!

Will be a very Warwick Todd style travel diary IMHO...
