What is toughness ? Bowling 30 overs of Leg Spin in a day ? Kayak down the stream flat out ? Chopping Wood ? Doing Moguls down the slopes ?
Rowing a boat with three other blokes helping ? Driving a car ? Swimming 30 laps of a pool ?

I conceded that there may be examples of these present in soccer such as someone playing through an injury, or if they played five games a week for a year.

However, because of the nature of the sport these acts of 'toughness' are less frequent than in other sports. There is more toughness inherent in sports such as football and rugby because of the contact and fear.

I fail to see how Vince Grella made the list for example.

Your suggestion that the word football was derived from 'association football' was quite absurd.

There are some very talented soccer players out there yes, but you also have to remember they are playing with a round ball. As for tough(they might as well be doing aerobics or playing chess), i don't even think thats worth arguing about people! Not an enemy of the game by any means, but i do think its ridiculously over-rated. Wait till they get a grip on AFL.

I agree with that dinglinga. If you remember I said playing through injury would be an example of soccer players being tough. There is nothing inherently tough in the sport, it is the extraneous circumstances which make Moore's act commendable.

Why do these soccer people get so easily offended? I have been told I hate the game when in fact I quite like it.

1. It's because no real Aussie footy fan will call Soccer 'Football' no matter how much Fox in Sydney want us to.

2. Because if you question the sport's toughness people might remember how Australia got ripped off by a diving Italian. Go the Italians..world class divers. I suppose it was their turn after they got ripped off in the 2002 World Cup. Shonky. Just Shonky.

3. Soccer fans get all emotional because their anger is often piqued by watching a sport for 95 minutes and not seeing a goal...again. After all, you'd be spewing too if you weren't scoring.

4. Because Soccer fans know that it is the 'World Game' because any slum kid can go and kick a ball of rags around. Not much point being the best restaraunt in the city when there is a better Chicken shop on the corner.

5. Because Soccer fans know that their sport is flavour of the month and that pretty soon no one will give a shit again and they'll be pissing in the wind. Remember when Basketball was 'the next big thing'.
