Front page of Irish Echo this week: "Aussie GAA Overlooked for Croke Park Funding: Gaelic games in Australia is missing out on crucial funding from Ireland that would help to secure its future. The GAA's annual report for 2010 reveals aggregate overseas funding of almost 2m euros in 2008 and 2009. ...The vast majority of the funds were allocated to the development of the games in the United States, Britain and Asia. ...a high ranking source in Dublin (said) that a senior GAA official referred to the Australian GAA as a 'black hole' for funding due to the absence of forward planning by local Australian branches."

It went on to say "The Secretary of the Australian GAA, Gerard Roe, who is based in Alice Springs, and who is employed by Croke Park, did not respond to the Irish Echo's questions."

Well, well, well. This doesn't surprise me one bit.

It might be fair to say that the Australasian executive aren't getting any results, no KPI's, etc. It would be fair to say they need replacing. Too bad it's a closed shop.

Wristy might remember when going for the top job a few years ago, there was a huge emphasis on how one might be able to get the best out of Croke Park and the applicants would be at a disadvantage because they were not already involved in the inner sanctum.

Top job (Secretary GAA of Aust) contract was up for renewal again recently - except this time it wasn't advertised - no other applicants! Rubber stamped. No performance review. Three more years of the same! And the Pres approaching 30 consecutive years in office!

I do remember us being flown to Bondi for a job interview with a difference. Its a shame they didnt advertise it this time round my Mediterrainian Orange man tan has lost some of its lustre. Nothing a good weekend at Bondi wouldnt fix. This time i would have done the interview naked whilst showing the powers that be the Wristwatch and telling them "its time for a change" ;)

In order: No - another time; and Yes. And you can add Brisbane, Perth, Auckland, Wellington and Melbourne - especially Melbourne from the little I've heard.
