I'm going out Saturday morning with my ol' man. Looks to be perfect then but the rest of the weekend will be rubbish.

Probably going to hit Tennyson Friday dusk for some yellow fin, wind permitting.

Yep, Saturday looks like the pick of the days over the next week or so, so I'll be out in the tinny early in the morning looking for a few diddlies, then concentrate on nailing some crabs & gar, maybe a KG or two if we're lucky. :D

Don't take too much notice of seabreeze.com predictions at the minute, rest assured the weather has settled into summer weather patterns, with calmer conditions in the mornings and arvo seabreezes kicking in around lunch time and building throughout the arvo. Seabreeze was saying around 14-16kts S/E this morning, but there wouldn't have been enough wind to blow the coconut off a lamington.. :roll: ;)

Seabreeze is rubbish. Last few days, the mornings have been calm and the seabreeze kicks in about lunchtime.

Assuming the same will continue on Saturday so I am getting out early.

Seabreeze is okay for longer range forecasts, ie; get a rough indication of when conditions might suit boating, but in summer they are way out with their short-term forecasts. Most other seasons though they are a lot more reliable.

Best website to check out the weather for an accurate, short-term forecast is via the BoM - http://www.bom.gov.au/marine/wind.shtml

The webcams on the TransportSA website are pretty handy to gauge conditions ;
http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/news_media/webcams.asp

As too the live surf cam down at Glenelg ;

Just of Bow road in about 15-18ft of water for Gar. Get a burly trail going and if there are any around they will find you. Just make sure you have wind and tide together. (If there is any breeze)

Seems like anywhere in between semi and largs jetty at the moment you will get crabs. Old boy went out Sunday and in 1 1/2 hrs came home with 75 and heard of plenty of other people netting large numbers.

I must say that of those 75 crabs how many had any meat in them? This time of year is fairly poor for gutsy crabs.
Do you guys chuck the soft shells back?

Launched the boat only twice at Turton over 5 days. Bloody wind. 20 odd gar, 1 KG and some squid. Time to liver detox now.

Only nabbed 8 big males on Saturday (long story... :roll: ), but each one was chockers mate. All males too and easily size. I've found that late Jan' and into Feb' is the best time for them locally. Sep/Oct is good, don't bother Nov & Dec as they're too busy doing the horizontal cha-cha, then late Jan and through Feb is prime time metro.

Managed a bag of BIG squid (30) and 2 doz. gar. KG's & flatty by-catch. Nice mixed bag, plus added 5 bags of squid heads (snapper baits) & 8 packets of candles (KG baits) to the bait freezer. 8)

I can honestly say they were the best crab I have ever eaten and the people I gave some to said the same. Full of meat no soft shells thrown back. Went out again last Saturday morning and returned about 10ish with 80 in the esky and again they did not dissapoint.
They are straight to their word, they don't talk a lot of smoke and mirrors behind windows.

Same.

Hit the ramp at 5:00 on Saturday morning and headed out of Bower Road. Had 40 off blueys by 10ish then after a big night Friday night I threw a bit of berley over board as the wind picked up. Was home by 11. :oops:

Then threw my back out later in the day. All round, not a great day.

@ SD - we were finding them about 1.5-2kms from shore on Saturday a bit further south than Booney in 16-20ft of water, anchored over sand & weed bottom. All males, chockers and not requiring a measure. Get into 'em. 8)

Thats it. Just out from the blue line, in about 20-25ft, I'd say 1500m offshore.

So how you travelling now Booney ol' son? Recovered from your crabbing & post-session anti-chiropractic ordeal mate?? 8)

Weather is looking the goods again tomorrow & Saturday. ;) Out early & back in early before the nautical stampede at the ramp is the plan. :lol:

Old boy has a spot in 30ft water on broken bottom off semaphore. Mid Jan thru Feb never fails.
