They've tried to get it but can't, importers in Sydney and Melbourne are stockpiling it for their markets. They've had a fair few requests in the past week for BMC gear. Looks like Cadel's legacy is going to have an impact. I'm tipping lots of BMC knicks on the punters come TDU time and the community ride to Tanunda.

What do u ride AM? having not ridden for about 6 years, i got a cheap heap of sh!t mountain bike from Kmart to get the legs back used to riding, with the plans to get a road bike in about 3 months

Ive a Giant OCR 3. Which is basically your base model road bike for Giant (alloy frame) cost me $840 in 2004. It has been superseeded by the Defy series. You pick up good basic new road bikes like mine for under a $1000. JT Cycles has some really good deals ATM. For $1000 bucks you can be kitted up with a bike, helmet and some accessories (saddle bag, tools, spare tubes etc).

For things like knicks, shoes, bottle cages etc go to Wiggle.com or torpedo7.com.au as online is far cheaper than the retail

I spent a good half hour in cycleworx on port road, they were very helpful, answered all questions and explained things really well. Over the next month I will be doing the rounds of a few more shops getting some more opinions.

Maybe we should try for a safooty group discount ;)

Have looked at Avanti & Scott bikes so far, 2012 model bikes are being released soon, so might get a few run out model specials.

Yeah you can get some good recreational level bikes at JTs for $1500. However for just another $500 at JT's you can start gettting into the bottom end of the really good bikes (Giant TCRs). There city store has a great range.

As Mickey said with the 2012 models due to be released soon you can pick up some really good bikes at discounted prices if you do your research.

I have found that $1500 will get a decent bike, but not a full carbon frame. Most at that price range is an alloy frame with carbon forks. And more than likely a real good set of shimano gearing etc.

Ideally the minimum gearing would be the shimano 105 series of shifters deraillers etc. The next model up being the ultegra and the dura ace being the best of the best.

When comparing bikes around the same price, if 1 has awesome gearing etc compared to another then usually the frame isn't as good etc... or you have just found an absolute bargain!!!

glenelg cycles still had the avanti full carbons on sale for 1700 i think for the tour de france sale, they were still on sale on saturday morning when i was in there... think they had a giant on sale too..
if you want to check out where good sales are on for bikes jump on bikeexchange.com.au, lists lots of older models, left over sizes for clearance prices etc...
if your buying knicks, jersys etc, get them off ebay for sure, you can get a whole kit for about $50 delievered... i have bought expensive knicks from a bike store and they feel no difference to the ones i have bought of ebay for a 1/4 of the price...

You're on the money mickey. $1500 gets you an alloy frame and 105 gearset. Add about $300 for each gear set upgrade to ultegra and then dura-ace.

I bought a Trek 1.9 with an ultegra gear set about 3 years ago for $1800 ... basically the top end for an alloy frame as I specifically didn't want a carbon frame.

Have been apathetic lately so need to get back into it.

Tour of Eneco starts tonight. Cadel's first serious ride (as serious as you can get) after you've won the tour. Eurosport channel 511 on FOX will be showing it each night for the week at 10:30 pm.

Would be icing if he managed to snag the #1 ranking at the end of the year as well. Gilbert will be tough to beat on that count though.

Thor Hushovd has joined BMC on a two year deal, will be an awesome asset for Cadel and his chance of back to back Tour wins.
