Had the day off yesterday and managed to get in a mornings fishing with a mate. Headed out from West Beach and headed out to the Somerton grounds. Picked up half a dozen squid pretty early on but they went off the bite, so we burleyed up pretty heavily for some gar. The soon arrived and in a big way. Initially they weren't interested in taking baits, but as soon as we backed the burley trail right off to a slight trickle she was game on. Ended up hooking about 6 doz absolute honkers, they were all solid fish up to ~340 mm. I would suggest taking a morning off at some stage and getting amongst em. Looks an even better day out there today too!!!

Too right SD, would've been prime out there this morning. 8)

Good numbers of squid have been coming slightly further south, and early morning. Grabbed a few dozen big gar down that way a week & a half ago, along with some massive snook on 100mm hard bodied lures near dusk. Back out there tomorrow night for more of the same, plus my first crack at a red or two since the ban. Bring it on. 8)

A good tip for not over-berleying gar is to soak a rag in tuna oil and whack that in your surface berley pot. ;) Some BIG tommies in amongst the gar too.

Going to be sitting in the Coffin Bay channel this Saturday for the high tide snapper run at around 1.00pm. If they don't play the game we'll head out to Farm Beach to get the quota of Whiting. Will update Monday

Nah mate, but we all know the same stuff. It's not rocket science over here and if you can't catch a ting at Farm Beach you should take up another hobby!!

Hey WCP,

Making my first ever trip to Coffins in early Jan.... Any inside info would be much appreciated!!!!!

Hopefully I'm not looking for a new hobby in February as a feed of whiting most days would do me just fine!!!

Farm Beach is the place to be for Whiting. If you don't mind extra fuel cost (half hour steam one way) you can go from Coffins or if you have a 4WD beach launching at Farm is fine that time of year.

February I would try the Fence line first. It is north of Farm Beach and is an old fence line that runs down the side of a hill, it's been ploughed so is a wide gap in the trees you can't miss. Head out level with the point of Frenchman and you will find an ab farm out there. I normally start a couple of hundred metres south of it and see what happens. You don't really need marks, if there's nothing in 15 minutes a small move only until you drop on a school. I'm sure there will be plenty of other boats out there that time of year.

If nothing at all out there head in shallow to the Sandhills or Longnose, these will be Southwest of the fence line and you just fish the white holes, try to find a hole surrounded by fairly dense weed, you tend to get smaller fish in the light stuff.

Farm Beach is a breeding ground and there should be no troubles in getting a feed.

White holes just east of Pt Sir Isaac could also be a try before you head all the way back to Sandhills / Longnose.

In shallow, don't burley up for a start. if whiting are there you'll get them anyway, burley can attract too much crap.

Good luck.

Waders, submersible flounder light and a spear and go for a wonder at night in the shallows. You'll get some nice flounder.

Well it is xmas morning in Adelaide .After a hot sticky xmas evening I awoke rather early .After feeding me and the cat packed the car up with my gear and off I headed .
Parking not to far away from millionaires row down the bay way. Yes not far from that shooting the other week I was set .
Selecting one of my strike pro pgymy lures (fathers day gift ) I was off .Small fish were jumping and I was getting follows .Then with a bad cast I was snagged up tried the bow and arrow thing with the line but I lost the lure .
Ok one lure down and I was off again tying on a new lure . I was in lala land when there was jumping near my line .Not sure if it was a fish or my lure fouling with my line I brought the lure in and cast again.
With the reel screaming (i dont set the drag until i have to ) I was on to a tiny fish . Waking up I thought what are u doing lifted my 7ft rod and placed the undersized Salmon Trout on the ground  .How this foul hooked fish didnt fall off I have no idea and it was taking line !!
Image
another view of this jumping jack fish lol
Image

With spirits raised I kept on my with my walking and casting .I went under the new bridge must say I didnt like being under it so I crossed over and tried the little beach on the other side of the Pat . I did get lots of small bream following and some hitting the lure but no more fish .Thinking I was hearing locals make noise I realised it was thunder when I saw the lightning over head .Just as I lost old faithful gold pgymy strike pro .
Decided discretion was better than continuing on my way .
So 30 bucks down the tubes lightning going off above my head 1 small ST landed .Was it worth the effort hell yes !!! 3 species on hardbodies and a great way to wake up !!
Merry xmas everyone !!!
