WWE/Benoit timeline
Written: June 26, 2007On Saturday, June 23, Chris Benoit was slated to appear at a WWE live event in Beaumont, Texas. That afternoon, Benoit contacted WWE to inform them that his wife and child were ill, and that he would not be able to attend the show.

WWE executives rebooked Benoit’s flight for the following morning, allowing Benoit to miss the Beaumont event making alternate arrangements for him to attend the pay-per-view event in Houston on Sunday.

WWE employees attempted to confirm with Benoit his travel plans but were unable to contact him.

Early Sunday morning, between 3:51 and 3:58 a.m., Benoit sent five text messages to co-workers:

Text Message 1 to two co-workers (sent 6/24 at 3:53 a.m.) - Chris Benoit’s cell phone
“My physical address is 130 Green Meadow Lane, Fayetteville Georgia. 30215”

Text Message 2 to two co-workers (sent 6/24 at 3:53 a.m.) - Chris Benoit’s cell phone
“The dogs are in the enclosed pool area. Garage side door is open”

Text Message 3 to two co-workers (sent 6/24 at 3:54 a.m.) - Nancy Benoit’s cell phone
“My physical address is 130 Green Meadow Lane.
Fayetteville Georgia. 30215”

Text Message 4 to two co-workers (sent 6/24 at 3:55 a.m.) - Nancy Benoit’s cell phone
“My physical address is 130 Green Meadow Lane.
Fayetteville Georgia. 30215"

Text Message 5 to one co-worker (sent 6/24 at 3:58 a.m.) - Nancy Benoit’s cell phone
“My address is 130 Green Meadow Lane. Fayetteville Georgia. 30215”

Throughout the day on Sunday, WWE made numerous attempts to contact Benoit both at home and at local hospitals in the Atlanta area. As of 11 p.m., WWE officials were unable to establish contact with Chris Benoit.

At 12:30 p.m. on Monday, June 25, WWE officials were notified of the text messages sent to the co-workers the previous day. By 12:45 p.m., WWE had contacted Fayette County Sheriff’s office requesting they check on the Benoit family.

Fayette County Sheriff's office made contact with WWE at approximately 4 p.m. advising that they had entered the house of Chris Benoit and found three deceased bodies – an adult male, adult female and a male child. WWE was told that Benoit’s home was now considered a major crime scene.

The decision to cancel the live event scheduled in Corpus Christi that night was made between 4 and 5 p.m. In keeping with company policy, and with limited knowledge regarding facts of the case, WWE choose to air a memorial dedicated to the career of Chris Benoit. As facts emerged surrounding the case, all tributes to Chris Benoit were removed both on-air and on WWE.com.

I think it's a bit rough the amount of judgement being passed ... Of course I'm not condoning his actions in saying that, and he shouldn't be portrayed as a hero, but none of us really know what his mental state was, doesn't seem to represent the actions of anyone even close to being in their right mind.

Amazing the amount of deaths from those within the industry .. Hadn't realised Mike Awesome and Bam Bam Bigelow had recently passed away either (if you were running a book on the next to go you'd have to have a bob on Jake the Snake wouldn't ya??).

Good call re: "Beyond The Mat" .. Also read a few books here and there like Mick Foley's Bio., these guys start out on the indy scene as jobbers, driving hours to an event to jump off high places, cut themselves open, risk death basically for maybe $50 a night all in the hope to someday break through to the big show.

I think Jesse Ventura might have been onto something.

'Wrestling With Shadows' (Bret Hart) is another good wrestling documentary to complement 'Beyond the Mat'.

Pro Wrestling is a lot tougher than cynics give it credit for.
I couldn't believe it when I found out that WWF/WWE produced their tv shows almost every week of the year.
All the traveling, bumps and bruises, plus the pain management that goes with that, often takes its toll.

On a side note, Jesse "I ain't got time to bleed" Venture is one of the best wrestling personalities ever, I particularly used to enjoy his 'color' commentary.

Agree his personality was not the best but he had far more than just "some mat skills". The guy was one of the best in ring performers you will see. The only reason he was so successful was his in ring performance as he had little else and not many people make it to his level based purely on in ring talent. Says something about how good he was.

Doing what he was alleged to have done though is just so cowardly it makes me sick. A 7 year old child FFS and your wife. I just cannot comprehend how the thought would even cross your mind. It makes no sense.

Yeah well I thought he was boring as batshit, his 2 big finishing moves were a flying headbut and the cross face crippler.
My dog could make those moves.
Never enjoyed one of his matches.

Anyway back onto the topic, may his wife and child rest in peace.

May he rot in hell for eternity performing his crappy boring routines to Mr 666 himself.

wedgie, if your saying his in ring persona wasn't flamboyant enough i agree with you, no charisma no anything it did nothing for me & no one really knew who to barrack for as you had to see who the opponent was, as for the callous act last week, surely the bloke needed help but i ask where are his friends etc ? surely someone could've worked out something was wrong as for nancy i just wish she had the guts to continue with the divorce proceedings she started with & at least 2 lives would've been saved but i know that is a lot lot easier said than done

I used to dislike wrestling until I saw "Beyond The Mat."
Jake The Snake has it tough, seems like there is a death wish on his family.
To watch Mick Foleys family watch that Cage match was a tad sad, with his kids crying.

an extract out of a U.S. paper. the piece in bold concerned me that this person appears/alledged to have been injecting growth hormones into his 7 y.o. son.

On Saturday, Benoit called a co-worker to say he had missed a flight and would be late for a wrestling event in Texas, WWE said in a timeline posted Tuesday on its Web site. The co-worker said Benoit sounded tired and groggy and said "I love you," which the co-worker found "out of context," WWE said.

When a co-worker who usually travels with Benoit called him later from the Houston airport, Benoit told the co-worker his wife, Nancy, was throwing up blood and that his son, Daniel, also was throwing up. Benoit said he thought it was food poisoning, according to WWE.

After Benoit talked to a WWE Talent Relations representative, the representative suggested Benoit try to make it to a pay-per-view event in Houston since he would not be able to make it to the live event in Beaumont, Texas.

But early Sunday, two co-workers received a series of text messages from the cell phones of Benoit and his wife. Most stated his home address in Fayetteville, about 20 miles south of Atlanta. One message from Benoit's phone said: "The dogs are in the enclosed pool area. Garage side door is open," according to WWE.

The text messages led WWE to ask authorities to check on Benoit and his family.

District Attorney Scott Ballard said the messages appeared to be an attempt by Benoit to get someone to the home to find the bodies after his suicide.

Investigators found anabolic steroids in the house and want to know whether the muscle man nicknamed "The Canadian Crippler" was unhinged by the bodybuilding drugs, which can cause paranoia, depression and explosive outbursts known as "roid rage."

"In a community like this it's bizarre to have a murder-suicide, especially involving the death of a 7-year-old," Ballard said. "I don't think we'll ever be able to wrap our minds around this."

He said Benoit's 43-year-old wife was killed Friday in an upstairs family room, and her feet and wrists were bound and there was blood under her head, indicating a possible struggle. Daniel was probably killed late Saturday or early Sunday, and his body was found in his bed, the district attorney said. Benoit, 40, apparently hanged himself hours later, Ballard said. His body was found in a downstairs weight room hanging from the pulley of a piece of exercise equipment.

The prosecutor said it appeared the wrestler remained in the house for up to a day with the bodies.

The boy had old needle marks in his arms, Ballard said. He said he had been told the parents considered him undersized and had given him growth hormones.

"The boy was very small, even dwarfed," Ballard said.

Toxicology test results may not be available for weeks or even months, Ballard said. As for whether steroids played a role in the crime, he said: "We don't know yet. That's one of the things we'll be looking at."

Benoit received drug deliveries from a Florida business that sold steroids, human growth hormone and testosterone on the Internet, according to the Albany County, N.Y., District Attorney's Office, which is investigating the business, MedXLife.com.

I notice The Advertiser is reporting this under its "Entertainment" heading rather than its "sport" heading. Maybe this and all wrestling threads should be moved to the Entertainment forum????
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

read that last night bayman. they say if coroners find that the wife was murdered 1st then his estate goes to his son which then goes to the son's half brother/sister from a previous marriage BUT if the son was killed 1st then his estate goes to his wife's family.

i think this is what your after:

Battle for Benoit estate could get nasty
Tuesday Sep 4 18:00 AEST
By ninemsn staff

A former girlfriend of wrestler Chris Benoit is the latest to join the complex legal battle over the estate of the man known as "the Canadian Crippler".

Wrestling websites in the US are reporting claims that a female wrestler gave birth to a daughter Benoit recognised as his after the pair's six-month fling in Edmonton in 1986.

It is understood the woman is seeking part of Benoit's estate on behalf of her daughter.

The unnamed woman joins a long line of heirs for Benoit's estate, which is said to be worth millions.

The wrestler's father, who was named administrator of his son's estate, is expected to challenge the so-called "slayer's statute" that stands in the state of Georgia.

This statute says the wrestler and his heirs cannot financially gain from the crimes he committed in suffocating his son and strangling his wife.

The estate battle hinges on whether or not Benoit killed his wife Nancy before killing their young son Daniel.

If the court determines Nancy died first, her son Daniel inherits the entire estate. Under Georgian law, his two half-siblings from his father's first marriage would then become his heirs.

If the court says Daniel died first then wife Nancy inherits the estate before her own death, meaning her family inherits the estate thereafter.

Neither Chris nor Nancy Benoit wrote a will before they died.

Nancy Benoit was found with her hands and feet bound, dead from asphyxiation. Initial reports suggested Benoit strangled his son the following day, before hanging himself in family's gym.

Nancy Benoit's family is expected to contest this sequence of events when the estate hearings get underway.
