Got some nice gar out off Marino today, fishing the rising arvo tide. It was hard work though, not like the old days I remember. Great tide, great weather...but we only averaged a fish every 20 mins or so. The gar were generally 20m+ behind the boat...and they were just sucking at the gents, tommies closer in as usual. Still, we got a nice feed. Finished with 10 gar and 7 tommies, but was hoping for some whiting too...Nothing on the bottom except toadies...is there a plague of them at the moment?

Whiting are a bit thin purch and yes, toadies are everywhere. All the burley from everyones gar fishing is keeping the little shitties fed.

Blueys are just starting to run BTW. Grange and Bower Rd grounds just starting to get busy...

Yep, good numbers of meaty, summer blue boys are on the march at the minute. :D Got a few orders from friends & family to fill, so better get out there sooner rather than later.. ;)

Slid over to Pt Vic on Friday night, fished inside Wardang on Saturday after an earlier, rather uneventful snapper sesh in the morning, and managed a bag limit of KG's (mainly 32 - 36cms) and a smattering of gar, tommies, slimeys, chow & snook. Still decent schools of whiting around if you can locate them. Few handfuls of chopped pillies brought them onto the bite in a big way. ;)

Tight lines guys! 8)

Whiting are definately plentiful in other regions but I think he was referring to the metro grounds mate

Yeah I know mate, I was just giving a brief report on where I fished on the weekend.. ;)

Also small pockets of KG's metro if you know where & when to look. Usually pull 5-6 per school and then the crap fish move in. So you just move nearby. Good sizes too, a good proportion of them in excess of 40cm. West Beach vicinity. ;)

No worries mate. I'm heading over to Smoky Bay after work tomorrow and coming back Monday, so I dare say I might get a little bit of fishing done in the next few days!

I don't wanna hear the report MC, as I'm sure you'll dominate over there. Hopefully you get some calm weather mate.

Hope so. When I was there 3-4 weeks ago it was shithouse weather. Only went out fishing once and that was only to get some bait for the Big Reds. Still fun catching 80 odd trumpeters/tommys in a bit under an hour though! 8)

Went out to check they yabby nets last night and we came across a Murray Cod which had only just died. It was 120 cms long and over 100lb. Bloody sad when you see such a beautiful fish like that floating down the creek. I was talking to a mate today and he said he has seen 18 metre plus cod over the last couple of weeks floating down the river. Has a bit to do with this black water coming down which has a low oxygen level. Hoopefully it doesn't cause too much damage to the fish population.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

A lot of cod get hit by boats too particularly this time of the year with high traffic from skiiers and yabby hunters
