O'Neills Only wrote:Oh this is good. Very difficult to start with an All Stars team from past 20 years - lot of great names mentioned here. To start with I will go with my original suggestion of 80's/90's pre Brighton and a 90's/00's Brighton St Marys. Two completely different styles of football. Pre Brighton had a few more Irish lads.
Haven't put pen to paper yet, but here are a few hints for pre Brighton: One of the best keepers ever: James Hagan. Paul Blute MF pre Brighton & GK post Brighton. Mark Booth (FON) was one of the best pure FF we have seen. Other names to consider: Dave Howell, Marty Martinovic, Tony Blute, Mickey Donnelly, John McSherry, Darryl Muldoon, Kevin Rooney, both Hendos, Brendan O'connor, Mick Lawlor, Darien Bauer, plus some others already mentioned.
I think a post Brighton team is a ripper on its own and one that we can all relate to. Will be hard squeezing some great names in there.
What would also be great would be a 60's/70's team which would be predominatly Irish. Then with the 80's/90's pre Brighton team and a 90's/00's post Brighton team covering three distinct eras. Then picking the best from that lot - now that would be difficult and controversial.
What about a best ever Minors team - considering many of them never went on to play Senior football of note. Here's another one: Best team of players that just breezed in and out of the game or didn't play at highest levels. We'll cover them later.

Best minors team has already been done by me about 11 times. Ill let you have a look at some of my folders ONO.....
The possibilities are endless...How about the Paul Else angry 11.That would feature some interesting names indeed.

How about the Bruno Rocca 15, put what ever spin you want on that one. (Very much a comment without boundaries).

Sorry buddy. I'm more a Fleetwood Mac guy, but I get into some of the stuff the kids listen to these days like Madonna and Phil Collins too.
Reminds me of Perth 86 actually.

I remember looking down the sideline and seeing the ten guys on the bench that made up the rest of the squad - outstanding players every one of them and not on the park.
Then in 1992 in Adelaide (Richmond Oval) there was some division within the Gaelic community and the best players were on the terraces watching. We didn't do well at all that year.
A couple more for the Elsie Angries: John O'Hare, Peter McSherry and Joe 'The Postman' McNulty. Then there was a bloke who chased someone with a hatchet.
Oh, and happy birthday Wristy - you're not quite an old fart yet r u?

That was just the Hanna Family..!!
As much as i enjoy reading about this humourous stroll down nostalgic lane - there is a Grand final on this weekend (numbers permitting).
Formline is a little hard to read but i tipped West Ireland at the start of the finals so no point jumping off now. I'm tipping the likes of the Floreani's and Klunny to be able to negate Wade, Gabe and the little striker they play up front (forgotten his name but ex titan??). The height in West Irelands midfield and polish up forward should get them over the line...just.
Schimma has (or is) Reever playing this year...?

ONKAS 18/10 fav.-rumours suggest they have recruited well and the state snr debuts of whitto(s.a,s b+f at nationals),janetski(leading goalskis for s.a),stevo and the return of wade "sexy" saunders will make them hard to stop....gabe who?
WEST IRELAND 25/10 - It would be no SHOC to see these boys take the next step after 08/09 in what must be described as a massive underachievement for such a suceesfull club.Gags and Klunny were outstanding at the nationals.
ST. BRENDANS 3/1 - A bit of value for last years Hannigan cup champions.the loss of Millsy for the season could hurt but are certain to recruit the best of the state minors through the mini Pegararro connection.
FLINDERS 5/1 - On paper their names suggest they could be another pre xmas special.Pfieffer,Palmer,Haughey,Neesons,Agius,Mcsorely,Elbows Elbrough and recruits is a very impressive list....Consistency is the only concern.Keen for silverware no doubt as the last 20 years has produced nil.
NA FIANNA 8/1 - Damien "Moose" Emery has produced a couple of recruiting cherrys. Will the new blood blend with the experience of Fay,Hennessy,Lawlor,Hill and co.
MITCHAM 10/1 - Chris Carey and his Mitcham Hawks are unlikely to win the pre-season comp but will gain valuable experience for Hannigan Cup time. They are the unknowns of the comp and 10/1 may interest some of their players.
IRISH AUSTRALIANS - 25/1 - The loss of some key personell to Mitcham will hurt I.A who it would be fair to stay have struggled at times over the last few years. Still have some of the most talented SAAFL players playing in their team in Platten,Westergreen and Stevey "Ray" Clay.

The bookie never lies except on the betting at the Nationals but thats a completely different story...Well done Onkas on winning the Pre- Season Cup.Too good on the day.

Good to see Wade Saunders back to some form. Has been a little slow in his recovery but his last few weeks have been back to some of his best.
After this convincing win Onkas have established themselves as the team to beat in the Hannigan cup. Should be a ripper.
