Tips as this thread needs to "do something"

Goats 11-20. Always start the season well. Some handy ins as well I am told for the purple and green lovin machine.
Taints 1-10. They also always start well and hit the wall around Soundwave ;) Na Fianna with 10-12 new players will take time to gel.
Onkas 1-10. Hard to tip against the reigning Cup winners. This is my match of the round. Flinders the eternal pre season optimists will certainly be very be keen to rattle the cage of one of their traditional rivals. Looking forward to watching that one.

Anyone else want to take the tipping challenge????

Yep agreed. Good game, St.Brendans ran over the top with clinical finishing in the second half. 5 point win by a very strong Taints line up.

Interesting to see 5 North Adelaide league players amongst the two teams.

Who won the late game and how did that contest pan out?

Think i saw somewhere on Facebook that Onkas won by a solitary point...??

Good to see the Taints predictabley be the recipients of the first black card in Australia*! What are everyones thoughts on this black card business? Im not a fan at all, i can understand how it might be required at the top level over in Ireland, but in our league where most players have never seen the game, come from an Aussie rules background, and are on day 3 of a bender - there will be a black card in most games.

Good to have the gaelic season back!

Yeah, I think there is a need for it CT, but the interpretation is only to be used for more extreme cases. I honestly thought that Lewis' black card was harsh (and I was pretty close to the incident) considering it was just a reflex decision from a player that is new to the came.
That's no disrepect to Anto's decision, as to the letter of the law the incident feel into the black card category.

I believe in Ireland (going off what I've heard) they've been very lenient with interpretations & used only for more serious offenses (ie. the last player professional fouling a player about to go into goal).

Was an enjoyable game to play in, as it usually is against the Taint's lads. Also full respect for the Taint's lads getting out to the game following the great Millsy's wedding!

This is my first time playing Gaelic. Friday will be my first game for Port Districts.

What do you get a black card for?

Black cards are awarded for getting in my way!!! 8)

The black card was given for a gaelic challenge/block on a player making a run off the ball. No sheparding or blocking off the ball in gaelic. Listen out for me, I'll tell what to do & what not to do when you're out there!!! ;)

Ah ok. So whats the penalty? Black sounds way worse than red

It would be handy if the players from both teams could coach me through it. Thanks for the offer mate ;)

Yeah hopefully the black cards are as rare as the red cards, and not as frequent as yellows. I

Good luck on Friday night HH3! Without knowing the specific rules behind it, the black card i believe is supposed to be used for obvious, deliberate, and cynical tackles - eg "aussie rules tackles" to slow up the game. The player is sent off for the game, but can be replaced. Where is with red cards the player is sent off, but can not be replaced. So sounds fair enough in theory, however a lot of players in our comp are very new to the game and wont be familiar with what an obvious, deliberate, and cynical gaelic tackle looks like.

Black is an "unsportsman like behaviour" card. The player committing the foul is sent off for the game, but can be replaced. It was brought in to clean up scragging off the ball & stop professional fouls in Ireland that were slowing the game down.

Red carded players can't be replaced.

Cheers mate. Looking forward to it.

Yeah from that explanation it seems a bit harsh. Are there any warnings for the player? Or is it automatic the first time you do it?

There is definitely a lot to take in.

It does seem like a lot to take in, but in reality it's not that bad! Best way is too learn in game as well.
There's plenty of little technical rules that still catch out the experienced players. Best way is to remember your basic carrying rules (four steps, solo or bounce & no double bounces), pick up rules, defending is more like basketball then footy & if you get a free kick, put it down & let someone Irish kick it for you

All 3 correct with correct margins. Wristy you magnificent bastard!!! 8)

Seems I'm on such a hot streak here are this coming weeks results for you....

Na Fianna v Troy Districts. Warriors by 1-10. The lads were gallant in defeat to the Taints in a really entertaining battle. This game also saw the boys in green and black blood 12 new players. It will be interesting to see if the extra week off comes into play and helps Port. ;) These games are always fiery and I expect this to be a red hot contest.

Irish Australia v Flinders. Reds by 11-20. Ye old O'Neils put on a brave display to get within 3 of the .Cup champions last Sunday and should be too classy in this contest. IA did not trouble the scores last week and their very existence may hinge on an improved outing here. I expect a few additional faces and an improved effort but I can only see one outcome in this one.

Match of the Round
West Ireland v St.Brendans. Goats by 1-10. This game could go either way but I think the numerical advantage will favour WI as I expect them to have 21 and multiple rotations whilst the Taints are more likely to have 17 unless something drastic changes throughout the week. The Taints definitely have some tall timber and some very handy ins. Kulikowski was unstoppable in the second stanza last week and could be the X factor the Taints need to sneak a win. The key to this game is whether Brendans will be able to curtail the running handball game of the Goats and create turnovers without fouling and getting cards when Western Ireland are physically challenged. If they can get the ball in the hands of the damaging Dooleys hands on the counter they will be a huge show. There will only be a kick in this one either way.

Close again wristy....Brendans by 3? Brendans looking the goods early on..

Na fianna over Port by 6 points in what would appear to be a close game

We beat Irish by a few.... good to get a win on the board..

Round 3

The Friday night double header sees St Brendans vs Irish Australians - this could be a blowout, hopefully the Irish continue to improve, showed some signs against us.

Onkas Vs Port - ill tip Port for an upset win here...

Flinders O'Neills Vs Na Fianna on Sunday at 2:30pm, hate the game time, hopefully the game is a cracker

That's 5 out of 6 correct with margins and I did say the other game would only be one kick in it. My sex is on fire :)

Must admit with work and a few other commitments I couldn't get out on the weekend and will struggle for the next few. Might bring my Bux show down this Sunday just to heckle Flinders and see if we can get Neville to dust off the SA Footy cobwebs.

St. Brendans 11-20
Onkas 1-10
Game of the round
Flinders 1-10 (hope I'm wrong)
