Anthony won't commit to state and comes in and out of games too much.
Tom Stirling would be a better option. Todd is probably the best player in the comp on his day and Shawn Mcgregor dominates in the air. They would be my top 3 in flinders.

Top clubs should be rewarded with selections in the state side. Very few players from port or irish would be selected in teams such as st brendans, onkas or na fianna let alone the state team.
Good players in average sides should not be rewarded over better players in better sides.

Yeah I forgot about Shawn. Gun and would be a walk up start. Superb in the air. Probably the best big man in the comp this year

Reasonable game tonight between flinders & western. Western getting up by a goal or two in the end. Flinders seemed to be about to finish over the top in the second, but got countered against & let a couple of goals in. Hope the guy who was injured pulled up ok.
Special thanks to the flinders lads for keeping the milky bar dog entertained during the first match.

Lucky Nev didnt play otherwise they would have lost by more.. The game would have played in better spirit with him not playing

Haha no worries schimma because I'm known for not playing in the spirit of the game? Since James and I have taken over the running of the club there have been massive changes in the way the we play and run the club. You wouldn't really know though as you are retired now after your stellar career of warming the bench and living off others succeses.

Considering we had arguably our best four out including Todd, Tom, Shawn and Anthony, you should really have won by alot more...shame it came down to one call late in the match to seal it for you

As for the team of the year I dont really believe any of the bottom 3 clubs deserve any players in there including ourselves...haven't really seen enough of the other teams to make a jugdement call but I guess all the usual suspects deserve a gig...

Yeah sure Nev.

Your best four who are not good enough to represent the state but good enough to change the outcome of the game?? I am confused.

WI by 7. The "late call" was not even relevant. I was the ref and the 2 other Grade one refs said I made the right call. Gags was stationary and Scotty landed on him. The match was over 5 mins earlier. Flinders were very good but my Reffing had nothing to do with it. A great game of Gaelic where the ref was not relevant. I love Scotty Mac, we won a national title together. Even if I made the call of tunnelling which isn't a rule it's Goats by 4. I reckon we should not bag refs on here and they did not in any way influence the result of a good game.

With regard to the Flinders v Western Ireland and some preceeding comments:

Firstly: Friday nights game was a fantastic spectacle for gaelic footy and Ill go as far as saying that was the most professional flinders have been in a match as long as i have been there. Put that down to whatever you like, a few "egos" missing (and no Nev isnt who im referring to there) or the fact that we were prepared to redeem last weeks effort, either way it was pleasing to see and im hoping that for the rest of the season we have set a platform to finish the season on. For once there was no backchat towards tommy (from either side), there was no backchat towards each other, and we played a gamestyle that gave us a chance to match it with the best in the competition and to push a fantastic side like Western Ireland down to the last 5 minutes was extremely pleasing.

Nev- the "late call" didnt cost us the game, nor was the decision that was made a wrong one. I went up to contest the ball (well try and mark it actually to try and make a run forward), Gags, as instinct would lead all small forwards to do, turned around in the gamble that i had spilled the ball behind, and me being mid air, had nowhere else to go but the ground. The injury is an injury i have carried for some time (and for the record is something im recieving regular treatment for), and it was aggrevated by one of those things that happens in footy and one that is every chance to happen to anybody if you choose to play the game. For the record- i must thank all the Western Ireland players and officials for offering their assistance whilst i was on the ground like a beached whale!, it was definately appreciated.

My comment was based on what I was told by someone else. As stated earlier I was not there. Was more a tounge in cheek go at schimma more than anything and as wristy said it was irrelevant to the final score.

As I have stated on numerous occasions I do believe wristy is the best ref in the competition. Consistency in decision making is the key and you know what to expect when he refs a game.

Looking forward to getting out there again soon :)

Thanks mate, much appreciated as even I second guess myself and to see you hurt was pretty difficult for me. Thanks again for not blaming me as I know you flew for the ball with your eyes on it and you deserved to be protected. Your a classy lad Scotty and hope your back on the park soon

For what's its worth IMO I reckon Steve Francis who reffed the GF my club lost last year is the best Ref in Australasia. I also think Tommy G is very good at it. These 2 guys are as good as anyone I have seen ref... It's a tough job
