'Tall Poppy' syndrome in most cases I reckon!
Personally I couldn't give a rat's arse!
Over the years he has (though not completely) learnt to pull his head in to some extent! :?

No i just think he is the worlds biggest knob...

Nobody hates Pat Rafter.

Or Federer, Roddick, Nadal, Nalbandian.

People who use the "tall poppy" argument have no idea what they are talking about.

I'll voice a vote of dislike for Nalbandian, so you're down to 3 there mate!

There are plenty out there that don't like Roddick and you are the first one to say you like Nalbandian :o

A good win last night for Hewitt, I can't see him getting past the second round though but it was important for him to win a game. He should never have been two sets to love down but the fact that he was and got up and had win was a good effort. Shame you can't give his heart and spirit to a few other players on the circut who have the game to be better than Hewitt but not the mental toughness.

OK, I bagged Ley Ley earlier but I watched a fair bit of his match last night, and I have to say he never gives up.

Down two sets, and facing a break in the third, he fought back well to win the next three sets.

Also the Yank bloke he was playing obviously has no idea how to win, because the same thing happened to him in the French Open against Gustavo Kuerten.

Ive always been one of the first to jump on the "tall poppy" bandwagon when getting upset about people bagging him especially as his original tennis club was Happy Valley where I reside but he seems to get less likable the older he gets, perhaps its me, who knows.
Never liked Roddick except for when he did those American Express ads, bloody funny.
My mum who's a big tennis fan hates Sharapova but I think she's great.
Mrs Wedgie gets upset when I start daydreaming about Maria grunting with me!

Gael Monfils isn't doing his Nike sponsors any favours the way he slides around on the court.
Being conditioned to play that way on the clay surfaces of Europe he's been trashing his shoes after a couple sets!
So the Nike execs gotta go down to their Third World sweatshops with their designers & develop a more durable footwear the eight year old orphans can knock up more suitable for the Frenchman's erratic playing style!
