Cycling still has many gentleman's agreements, much like cricket and footy used to. They won't stop and wait for someone to return, but his teammates would and the peloton would continue at the same speed until he caught back up with the help of his team. It is a seriously raced stage, but just not for the first half, they just cruise nice and easily. Then they hit Paris, and it's on. From there, Cadel just needs to stick with the main field, avoid crashes and he's got it. Technically not over, but it's effectively impossible, even if Andy Schleck did try something he'd not gain any time, let alone a full 90 seconds.

Tiger07 really has no idea. Just read some of his posts in the crows forum.

Fantastic achievement Cadel. One that I thought an Australian would never complete.

TDU will go off like a frog in sock if they ensure Cadel is here.

Best days racing ever was up Old Willunga Hill 2 years ago when Cadel attacked with three Eskatel Eskadi riders and was leading the tour on the road as he came back into Willunga only for the HTC team to get organised and chase him down so Griepel could win the Tour.

Would much rather tax payers money get spent on him than Lance*.

Sounds like my sort of race. Even I could go close to winning that

thats one of the great traditions of the tour, no one challenges the leader on the last stage, the ride into paris

I'm sure that a stage in the TDU next year is finishing on that hill, which will be a very good stage.
Definitely agree spent the money on Evans and he will be a lot cheaper, than the dirty dog yank.

Agreed.

I only watched bits and pieces, but 'A Dad' watched every single second...lol
(And I'm sure he'll pay for it in tiredness this week..A Dad that is...lol)

But a great achievement - grewling would be an understatement.
The fitness he would have to have (all of them really).

He was quite emotional as you would be - having put in so much hardwork and to win in the end.
Nice touch to have Tina Arena there to sing the National Anthem - a moment I'm sure he won't forget in a hurry.

Good stuff !! :D

I hope he is here for TDU as well O:)

Yeah, bloody oath...damn arrogant French

Pulled the pin early last night, and recorded it. Just couldn't stay awake :(

Super effort by Cadel, and it would rate as the best Australian sporting result since the Americas Cup IMO....
