Look Hurricane was a tougth nut but 3 years out of the ring and medicos not supporting his comeback he is what is termed a STIFF a human punching bag. His last fights prior to exiting the game where brutal and damaging for him as you get that when you leed with your jaw.

I just hope he gets through safe BUT dont portray this as a quality fight as all know it is far from.

No surprise here. ;)

I think that Magpies is making refrence to the fact that Briggs was a very poor option to be taken seriously! So it is about time Green stepped up to the plate and challenged someone with one of them things that beat in your chest!!! Or a legit belt around their waist.

How often do any of these guys really put their heads on the line though really ?? I mean, at least Danny Green has fought some guys that we had heard of... Mundine has been plucking hobo's from obscurity to take him on for years... The sport has some serious issues of lopsidedness....

MP and Choccies both make good points. Briggs has been retired for 3.5 years... did Green really expect a decent showing from him? What Briggs did was a disgrace but Green should look at fighting someone who is currently active...

Definitely. But they all fights stiffs. Part of the game/apprenticeship.

Joe Louis famously had his "Bum of the Month Club". Of course that was balanced by fights with Marciano, Walcott, Conn, Baer, Schmelling, Carnera, Charles and Braddock among others.

Green's record? Blew his first title shot against Bayer. Outpointed in their next bout. Won a title against Drews who pretty much refused to fight over twelve rounds.

Got schooled in the biggest fight of his career.

The Man cops a lotta grief. But when he was hopelessly raw he stepped into the ring against a seasoned champ in Ottke. He was a rank outsider against Echols but claimed his first title. Sam Soliman has been in the ring with the best and Mundine blew him away in their third bout.

Then, of course, there was the boxing lesson he gave Green, who must've suffered whiplash from his head snapping back from Mundine's jabs all night long.

Mundine would've been rightly crucified if he staged a sham fight like this.

Green's had a free ride for far too long...

Look I'll give Mundine the points for beating Green. Can't argue there. But he fights nobodies more often than not and the praise he earnt for beating Green has been overshadowed and probably forgotten by most because he continues to fight Joe Citizen...

Danny Green should have called the fight off as soon as Briggs weighed in more than 3kg over the agreed limit (his lack of preparation should have been obvious at that stage). He had the right to do this but went ahead with the farce anyway. People would have got their money back instead of being short-changed.

Is it true that green was backed from $8 into $1.80 for a first round knockout ?

I am totally disgusted , want my $50 bucks back.

Why spend years in the gym training and building up a reputation in both the kickboxing world and boxing world to destroy it in 29seconds?
No money would be worth that!

What about the poor fight fans who paid $1000 to sit ringside !

I reckon Barry Michaels face after the fight summed it all up - he knows boxing is in trouble with MMA looming large on the horizon.

That is one of the most disgusting and weakest things i have ever seen!!

If he is going to take a dive he could have at least waited a couple rounds or copped a few hits!!

Seems bit fishy to me, maybe Briggs is in serious debt thats why he came out of retirement for a world title bout? Guaranteed to pick up some decent coin for the fight. Interesting to see if anything comes of this.

GREEN selected snippets

"" I hit him with a jab to the belly, with a jab to the top of the head"

"" I glanced him, I watched his eyes goggle on his head and fall forward and I could not believe what I was seeing."

""Right now , Im still in shock, Im gutted, frustrated, confused what just happened.""

""I prepared for 12 rounds of war and had no idea this was going to happen.Im devastated, mate. For the sport for me personally, for people who paid to see the fight..its a shock.""

''I expected Briggs to be a really tough opponent so what happened tonight was a shock. Im just filthy mate. I feel dirty.""

___________________________________________________________________________
I saw the punch, it appeared to just touch the top of Briggs head or hair
Its gunna be remembered for many many years
Cant believe he dived on that feeble punch
Surely Briggs was unfit and was vulnerable to any sMALlish hit

Its almost 50 years ago when Sonny Liston is alledged to have dived vrs Cassuis Clay
Got a feeling the Green Briggs fight will be remembered for a long time as well

This is a joke.

That punch was a joke.

Boxing is a joke.

Muay Thai has now passed boxing as the biggest Martial Art in Australia.

Don't waste your money on boxing, go and see real fights and support your local lads at SA events (Knees of Fury)
