Gareth Ian "Gary" Ablett (born 19 November 1965) is an English former professional footballer. He played as a defender. He spent nine years with Liverpool, and went on to win the FA Cup with their city rivals Everton in 1995. He is the current Liverpool F.C. Reserves manager.

It's definitly a good topic.... Can anyone name people that have succeeded or been reasonably successful at 2 professional sports apart from the switch between rugby codes ??
I can think of a few quickly off the top of my head...

Deoin Sanders - NFL and Major League Baseball
Dean Brogan - NBL and AFL
Nova Perris-Kneebone - Hockey and Athletics
Anthony Mundine - NRL and Boxing
Craig Bradley - Cricket and AFL

I'd say there'd be lots more too....
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

IIRC Dean Brogan won a Championship ring with the 36ers before he won a premiership medallion with Port Power. Others like Mike Parsons and Kurt Tippett have similarly switched from basketball to aussie rules.

Andrew McLeod was a soccer talent and there are plenty of cricket/footy examples a la Bradley. Of course the Chappell brothers all excelled in baseball as well as cricket and Bradman in Squash/Cricket. Todd Viney was a great tennis player and Rodger Rasheed played for Sturt as well as on the international tennis circuit.

I suspect plenty of aussie rules guys could excel at rowing but I imagine some players like van Berlo who have the right frame to go with their aerobic capacity could equally excel as elite cyclists in the classic tours.
Steve Bradbury and Michael Milton. Aussie Legends.

No i think its great, just very unexpected. I think there is so much talent out there from other sports and AFL clubs probably don't take the gamble enough.

I know it would never ever happen for so many reasons but could you imagine if Lebron James was given a year off to work on kicking a football and his tackling how good a player he could possibly be at AFL level.

Andrew Symonds to Rugby League?

http://wwos.ninemsn.com.au/video.aspx?v ... 648f4ee4a1

Biggest issue would probably be age, but considering he seems to be fairly involved with the Bronco's and trains with them occasionally, you have to wonder if Brisbane would consider playing him for a few games either this season or next.
He seems to know the game fairly well, and looks to have a pretty good build for it.
It would generate abit of interest and bring the crowds in if nothing else, plus it appears Symonds isn't doing to much at the moment.
