For those keeping score the four flies I used over the last 2 weekends
Yellow hands down winner with a fish landed on it. And I lost count yesterday of how many hits bumps and rises it had.
Barbie Pink Came in second had the first hook up on Saturday with it but lost the fish .almost as many hits bumps rises as the yellow
GreenOnce the colour that bream tried to commit suicide to .A long away third with about four rises etc
White and Orange I was assured by Bream lure fishermen that Orange was a great colour for Bream .As I couldn't find an orange nail polish(fancy a grey haired 40odd yrold guy looking at nail polish  )I used white for the body and orange for the tail.
So the number of fish that looked at this fly zip nada nun ZERO!!

I have a darker pink to try and If I can find it would like to make a blue one as I have materials for a blue tail.Yellow and Pink worked well right up to Autumn hopefully will continue until next autumn.
And the popper fly I have mucking around with is based on Morsies from fly life forum's Whiting popper(foam and a white tail) .
cheers guys

Isn't that the norm over there ;)

Just a thought Priscilla but are the flies meant to mimic real insects in the same way that trout/salmon flies do cos the time of year might affect what colours they go for depending on whether or not those insects are around then. Might account for why they don't like green at the moment.

Thanks for the info on the water quality...I'll stick to skippy burgers when I get over there then :D

Actually salt water flies are supposed to be larger than Fresh water or trout flies.I suppose Atlantic Salmon flies are bigger than Trout.
I decided to try smaller, has raised a few eye brows.Bright colours well so I can see them better ;) mind u doesn't really work when there smaller.

this is a salt water fly

Well took the new boat out on its maiden voyage for the family at Farm Beach. Had a massive hang over and didn't get to the beach till midday. After feeding the fish :vom: we got the lines in and landed about 25 whiting, 6 trevally and one big salmon. Pretty good effort considering I was trying to help my 5 year old son rebait, undo tangles, give the three year old daughter a turn and keep the wife happy all at the same time!!

Looking forward to the novelty wearing off and I can just take my mates and son out!!

Got back in and saw a work mate on the beach, they were only in a 12 ft tinny and got buzzed by a 16 ft Pointer!!!!

Cheers for the news WCP - myself and a few mates were planning on going scallop diving at Black Springs on Saturday. I have now instantly demoted myself to staying on board in the sheller's position!

They were at Frenchmans but I've since heard the Oyster boys all had to get out of the water last Wednesday as there was a pointer cruising the shallows of the farms. As you know, the Farms are inside Longnose and a stones throw from Black Springs!! I'd be keeping everyone out of the water myself!!

The BIG ONE THAT GOT AWAY

So its Friday morning and my RDO.We've had a cool change and the heat returns Saturday for at least the next week temps up to 37 c.

Anyway I headed back to West lakes and the same area I fished last week. With the sun not being fully up I was a bit hesitant as the Bream like to sit in the sun .BUT I could see fish moving in ankle deep water. And I went in for the kill being the predator I am lol.
Anyway all this resulted in was schools of scared fish. They weren't Bream perhaps mullet or Whiting .
So I continued on for a few more casts and nothing.Deciding to head to the next beach with a northish wind blowing off I trudged.
Getting to the spot I had my hook up last Saturday I went back in after .But the numbers of fish weren't there they weren't feeding.I did chase some small schools of fish for nothing.

With the wind making it hard to cast I turned and headed in the other direction.I came across some fish "tailing" in some very shallow water .Every time I tried to cast the wind would push my fly to close to the shore.Once again I succeeded in scaring the fish off.

So standing there and casting I had a brain fade and was just moving the popper fly across the water.when I noticed water movement behind the fly (ok kiddies lets cue the jaws music here ).It was following the moving fly I stopped it stopped .I gave one quick flick of the fly the fish attacked .I have no idea what this fish was .I was madly trying to get my fly line back on the reel I needed not have bothered.

This fish was stripping line I couldn't believe it.I still couldn't see it and in all this fight last 2 to 3 minutes.Me madly trying to get back to dry land the fish heading back to deeper water .It took this fly in calf deep water and I could not see the damn fish.Line stripping rod bending fun .

But I lost it I retraced my steps went back to where I started from .I walked that same section of beach but nothing .So that happened between 7.30 and 8.30 am .

With no luck I headed back to beach 1 nothing nada would touch this pink popper I was still scaring off Mullet or whiting schools .Half way through this beach I stopped and changed to a yellow popper.Fourth cast and pop tiny bream was a jumping.

A few more casts then I cast next to a rock in very shallow water.Bang I'm on with a small bream and that's right my bad luck continues I lost that one.I continued up the rest of this stretch nothing a few pops but nothing.

So back to beach number 2 and I find bait fish schools and schools of tiny garfish.and let me tell u every time a fish jumped fish circles etc I cast at them
I kept the popper moving I had the popper still but nothing .So I decided to head home.

Almost back to the car there's fish moving the water so like a good predator I went back in.Other than scaring a large whiting and sinking in a stinking black mud hole that was my almost 3 hours .

And whatever that fish was it was big and stripped line and got my heart a pumping.

Cheers

Well with a hot day Forecast I was high hopes for a fish .
But luck would have it for 2 1/2 hours nothing.
I started out with a very small foam popper that nothing would touch .Swapped over to a larger body but only the tiddlers were a popping .
Different spot tomorrow.

Another wasted trip
Well I decided to hit another beach at West lakes .It didn't start well I tied on the fly that the mulloway hit on Friday and the tail came off in my fingers .
Not the start I wanted so trying on a new fly off I went .
Seeing some of that yucky weed part way I decided to steer clear of it .Well what a shock this beach was I waded and cast nothing.Should point out the wind was shocking pushing my fly shore-wards.
I went right up to the bridge at the end of the beach before finding any fish and I almost stepped on them they were hiding in the shadows just before the foot bridge.I got a few pops and that was that.
Walking back to the other end of the Beach and the no entry to public sign .I went back in the water and started casting at the first seaweed bed .once again a few pops from tiddlers.moving up the beach the same thing would happen including at the yucky weed along the bank .
Exiting the water and moving past the weed I hit the next seaweed bed nothing right back up to the bridge nothing.
Strange thing is I thought the wind had changed direction cast back where I had waded from and pop tiny fish again jumping at the fly .But the wind hadn't changed so I was casting forwards and walking backwards nothing.
Decided to try again in fact I did this a total of four times over this Beach .And kept getting small tiddlers a popping .Plus the odd jump out in the centre of the lake that I couldn't cast at due to the damn wind .Fourth time I actually got a pop at the last seaweed bed.
I did a 1/4 wade of the beach with the wind getting stronger and called it quits perhaps in all 2 a bit hours at this beach .Only ever caught small fish there but even they weren't feeding today .

Homework this week some more popper flies !!

Well with another of our heat record days forecast I headed down to west lakes for a flick.
Got to my favourite spot and met Brenton from strike and hook forum.Had a quick chat and headed to the next little rocky outcrop and beach.
Not a lot happened the odd jump from tiddlers and after about a 1/2 hour or so I was headed back to the first section of the lake.
And of course along the way a smallish fish did a very nice aerial acrobatic jump at my fly and missed .Met up with Brenton and he showed me his picture of a very nice mullieway that he had just caught.
So back to the beginning and yep I walked into the water right were a guy in kayak with about four rods was fishing .Bad luck I thought and I was getting the odd smallish fish jump and not much else.
Deciding to change my fly I headed out to dry land and lawn .Switched my fly from bright pink to Yellow thinking thats more of a Bream colour.Walked back to where I had started from and started casting .And then I realised something was different the wind had picked up and the water was very choppy .this started working in my favour fish jumping and a popping my fly all up the beach .then I saw what size they were my god they were tiny tiny tiddlers .
By the time I reached my car I had been in the water for 3 hours !! and I was sunburnt had a headache my knees ached my wrists my back and was I thirsty .
BUT the reason I went home the only fish that were hitting my fly were all smaller than fly !!!
So that was my Saturday morning flick in temps heading towards over 30c again .

Well another warm well stinking hot day forecast .But I headed out to my favourite beaches at West lakes(well I fished three) .
Perhaps the heat is affecting the fish not much was happening .I could only get the tiddlers to look at my popper .And they only woke up when the wind picked up .But when the wind stopped the heat really set in .
Walking back to my car the wind changed direction and at my feet were 3 very nice sized Snook just cruising in the shallows .I so wanted to cast at them but the wind which had changed direction would've had just blown me on to the land .
The first snook I've seen since autum!!
Snook Baitfish are coming back .
And that was 3 hours in the sun on sunday

Well done Micky for getting in amongst it I am jealous of you getting the time and also putting up with the trying conditions down there. I have waited all year to get some leave to go somewhere quiet and now have ben told I need to wait to 2011.

I don't think I'll get any leave in 2011 due to this knee .
