It got me thinking as to who are the winner and placegetters in the Gaelic Good Guys brownlow equivalent. Top three pick themselves in the GGG award with;

3rd - Whitto; This man is a legend and not just after winning the Aust Champs best player award. Always out at the games whether in a supporter role or coach role, prepared to put his hand up to help out whether on the bar or officiating the lines. Work involved with state as well I believe in terms of team manager role too. As hard as it would be for him not to want to be out at games you always see him there.

2nd - Tommy G, the peoples champ; The resume relating to gaelic is very impressive for this young man. Minor champion for billions of years on end, womens coach of state team, Irish blues coach, referee, big involvement with Mitcham and sevens comp, state senior rep. Missed couple years with injury but always presents well. Here the girls go "Oh Tommy you so fine you blow my mind" down at the games quite regularly...Very level headed fellow as well.

And the winner is - Zeus; This man is "God". I was chatting to Chris Bevo who said they were thinking of erecting a statue at St Marys and the many Saints watering holes. Involvement in running the 7s, the website, reffing, involved in state committee, team manager for state, sorting out the Saints boys especially with Backman, Robin, Bevo and the little Ginos. Don't think I have heard anyone say a bad word about this man.

That's a lie, I have plenty of bad words to say about/to him!!

Oh Rupet you must be talking of the Young Zeus otherwise know as "Bubba" or "the good Zaluski"
I have heard plenty of bad thing about the other 1 is it Mark Zaluski?

Plenty of interest this week with the games tonight to go along way to deciding 2nd spot.

NaFianna v WI. Goats easily accounted for the Flinders boys last week in the rescheduled game while the NaFianna boys have been cooling their heals for a couple of weeks. A win for the goats and it makes it pretty hard for the Saints boys to dislodge them from 2nd especially as they match up in the final game of the season. The NaFianna boys best is very good but numbers sometimes don't always show which leaves them open to some less than impressive results. Expect the weeks off to affect the NaFianna boys and the Goats to win by 6-10 points.

Flinders v Saints. Flinders have been the enigmas this year. Prior to Xmas their best was top two material but unfortunately some crucial losses throughout the year have come back to haunt them. They are much better than the sides ranked 6-8 but will they get everyone back on the park at this time of the year? Also may have copped a couple injuries last week which may further affect their chances. The Saints believe they are marching in. A team that has always performed well at this time of the year and again have been building up. Need to win to keep the pressure on the Goats and to have any chance of stealing 2nd. Judging on the last matchup would expect a spirited and fiery clash so expect Timmy Javor to have his hands full. Saints by 6-10 points

Mitcham v Irish. While Mitcham have only one the solitary game they too are a better side than results have shown. Compete well with some of the top 4 teams but not able to account for the others when opportunities present themselves. Have the Mr Cricket equivalent in gaelic in the Peoples Champ Tommy G and guys like Carey, Gomez, Soxy but sometimes the defence is lacking. Cutting out the turnovers and they are in. The Irish have been very inconsistent of late and again will dpend on which guys are available. Have some talls who compete well in Tim Watson and Wark and good finishers when around in Haynesy and Paul VM. While the Iris defence led by young Stiffy and Huss have been staedy expect the attacking flair of the Mitcham boys to cuase some trouble. Mitcham by 6-10 points.

Onkas v Port. Expect this to again be a training run for the Onkas lads. Depth in the squad assembled by the Gaelics Ex-Most Eligible bachelor will be too tough for the inexperienced Port boys. OhDanny boy, Wado, Anto and Sammy J if fit to run rings around Port in what will turn out to be a clinic. Onkas by 15+

In the womens games the match of the round is undoubtedly the Onkas v Blues. Matches the two coaching compatants in Wado and Tommy G against each other in maybe the grand final preview. The finishing of the Onkas to be the difference with more options in Lauren, Chook, Lady Liz to name a few compared to the Blues in Neets, Belinda and Marnie. While Onkas have had consistent numbers Tommy Gs Blues don't look to have been able to get everyone on the park as yet and as such Onkas by 6-10 points

A big thankyou to everyone who attended friday nights "Open House" hosted by Dan Bryant ;) . Based on the amount of visits it was a huge success. Some people even entered the house twice  . Unfortunately Na Fianna regrets to inform you all the house will not be open during the finals series. We thankyou in advance for your understanding :D

Certainly an ugly show with D Bryant between the pipes.
But it certainly goes to show the value of Theoby Javor. Has only missed one game & it seems that he has a 7 goal effect on the side ;) Certainly a candidate for team of the year!

It seems the Goats of West Ireland have got their act together post-Christmas. In fact my contacts at Swoopingbet now have installed them as favourites for the Hannigan Cup

Looking forward to seeing the Purple Haze in action this week against the Taints.

Western Ireland $2.00
Onkaparinga $2.20
St Brendans $5.00
Na Fianna $7.50

Not sure they have double checked the % the market is running at so their could be some $$$ to be made for the SA Footy.net gaelic community.

Careful Rupert - this Corey Bevo is the sort of dubious sportsman who would likely provide information on playing conditions and the pitch to equally disreputable characters such as $woopingbet...

What results from the weekend? Sounds like Goats touched up Na Fianna, and Flinders forfeit against the Taints. How did the Mitcham vs Irish game go? And Port vs Shonkas?

dunno about the mitcham irish game but onkas got up along the lines of heaps to not many.
G phillips made a successfull return to gaelic playing goals. you'll all be surprised to know his goalkeeping duties didnt stop him scoring his first point in almost 12 months and making two great saves late in the match. i smell three votes coming his way :P

Believe the Irish boys had a win courtesy of a forfeit from the Mitcham boys. Not even the encouragement from the peoples champ was enough to get the boys out. Rumor has it they were move interested in getting ready to watch the mickey mouse cup between freo and west coast...

Not too belittle your accomplishment Schimma but when playing for my old club whose name cant be mentioned on this site i once scored 2 goals within less than a minute  The second was courtesy of a sublime Della Verde chip cross in which i attempted a roundhouse kick only to airy with my foot but ultimately pelvic thrust in with my D*ck  This is a true story and too this day i believe it is the only penis under that has been scored in our comp :D "The Wristwatch doesnt just tell time "

We will be there this week....Adelaide United and Friday night games do not go well for us.

Soccer season is also back on with about half our squad having games the next day....

We still should have fielded a team though......

GAELIC 7,S

Last night was our penultimate round and the action at Gaelic park is reaching fever pitch. The 7,s comp winner legitamately looks like it could come from any one of 5 teams with our friends in the fluro orange having stitched up the wooden spoon. The casm between the very good and the not so good seemed big enough to fit the rankor (see Return of the Jedi) earlier in the season but last nights results showed that on their day each team has the firepower to get the job done.

St.Brendans led by the Peggeraro boys doing their best circa 1980,s Killer Bees Tag Team doing the mask (guernsey) confusion strategies were able to get a narrow win over Mitcham. Throw in CC and Mase and should the Angry Leppers make it to the Semis they will feel they are a chance at some silverware. St. Brendans would enter the finals as favourites at this stage.

Flinders had a good 12 point win over the Dingos and the development of the young Westminster boys each week continues to astonish me. Mark "The Wiz" Campbell was reading the play better than JK Rowlins last night and looks a star of the future. With only 2 games required to qualify it will be very interesting to see the REDS best 7 should they make the semi finals as they have used 6 handy Irish footballers.

The late game last night saw the Steve Irwins Allstars upset premiership fancies and defending champs Onkas by 6 points."CRICKEY!" The return of Ryan "Yes" Darling, Adam "Hairy" Harris and the crazy purple patch of Lewis "Curl 'n'Fluff" McDonald got the job done against Onkas who did field a couple of juniors in the squad. This win might give the Steves the confidence to achieve the previously unthinkable whilst Onkas best 7 in the finals will be perhaps a little harder to topple.
Finally big ups to Matt Whitford for fighting for the survival of the Onkas 7,s team this week and ensuring his club didnt become labelled a disgrace by doing a mid season pull out. A commitment was made to the comp, the people who work hard to run it and to the other teams and i was shocked to hear that their was talk of pulling out. Regardless of the reasons or the exact specifics i have been led to believe that it was Whittos words and actions that kept the Onkas 7,s alive and quite possibly the 7,s comp. Whitto is obviously a bloke with integrity and his reward will be in 2 weeks when his team is battling for cups and medallions. It wasnt that long ago that RUPERT posted some sort of stupid good guy award post that made me wanna puke but in hindsight it was probably spot on as without the 3 people he mentioned there would be no 7,s which has been a valuable breeding ground for future players and teams over the last 10 years and has allowed our game to grow and improve :)
