Onkas snatched victory over the Taints late in the contest while the Irish continued the form from the carnival scraping home 5-6 to 2-11 over Flinders.

While the O'Neils were not at full strength, with Super Coach Jimmy at the IPL auction and not an Agius to be seen the Doecke XIII will take and deserved the win and at least keep the battle for fourth spot slightly more interesting than it was at 9:14 last night.

Young Pauly Khawaja must offer good Michael Vaughan esque odds to maybe sneak a team of the year nomination, with a lazy 3 goals.

Great women's game earlier on in the night with Onkas eeking out a 6 point victory in the Grand Final Preview over the Irish Blues.

Certainly a couple of incidents where the second umpire could have been utilised. Maybe we could allow each skipper two referrals? Although most teams would use them within the opening 45 seconds. Was very tempted to mention one team in particular there. Maybe the association should spend less money on water fans (although it was bloody good last night) and get into some snicko and hot spot analysis...

Sundays Results

NA FIANNA 5.19 - 34 def PORT 4.2 - 14
WI 6.8 - 26 def MIT 0.8 - 8. The scores were actually level at the 23 min mark of the first half with Mithcham going into the St Marys doctor. The game scores arent true reflection on the contest. Rolfey the Kamakazi was excellent for Mitcham along with CC whilst Skinny Portlock was BOG and well supported by Gags.

Breaking Balls was quick to remind me yesterday that he is the only tipper from the first half besting me (by 1). He suggested that everyone gets a 4 for the last round and we continue the tips and write ups for those that like to preview their tips. So we will carry on post Christmas (perhaps unlike...never mind ;) )
Rules are simple. Tip with margin in incraments of 5. You get one for the tip. 2 if you tip a draw. Double points if you can tip all games and margins in a weekend.

A great game of gaelic was on the cards for Friday night between Onkas and the taints boys.
Until it was ruined by the very poor official. He ruined a good match up and I must say that the way the Onkas boys all apologised after the game they werent real happy about it either. I missed the red card so if anyone has any details as to what happened please post it. I didnt see any incidents out there or any fights so must have been a hit behind play? Couldnt possibly be a red card for telling the ref to just worry about refing could it?

the first yellow was for a bad challenge (which i didnt think was too bad) the second yellow and subsequent red was for saying something along the lines of "just concentrate on umpiring" after an interesting decision against the saints.

tough spot though having to ref your own team but i can understand the saints frustration.

I heard a fair bit about fridays situation and let me just throw this out there...As a bad of a job as the official may have done (i did not see the game myself) i think he deserves credit for stepping in when not rostered to be the ref firstly and secondly to ref your own team is a nightmare plain and simple. Let alone for a junior ref in his rookie season with his own son playing in one of the teams. Basically he shouldnt have been the ref but its not his fault that he was. I do however completely understand your frustration KH and to awnser your question, No you could not get a red card for the aforementioned statement (um,should not get a red card  )

can you get a card for calling the ref a Socialist??????

any way it was a good game between the goats and mitcham. was hard to manage with 6 on the bench and that may have hurt the goats in the first half. Mitcham were up and about early and should have been leading at half time. The Goats for the first time in years actually scored unders hopefully this continues in the push towards the finals.

Oh Schimma. The penalty on that occasion was a 13m penalty. It was also relevant that my father being a politician was mentioned prior to the remark. Interestingly enough I as the umpire and the peanalised party who i will not name, lets just call him D.Fol (not short for follacle ;) ) discussed the incident with the late great Norm Murphy after the game and his ruling was that it should have been a yellow. I think after over 300 games and only 2 send offs its pretty hard to get sent off by me. I dont mind a bit of clever banter. There are some banter artists in our league and i would hate to cutail the witt and sparkling repartee :D

Sentiments very much shared by the St Brendans club umpire, who i believe has umpired about 10 games and only paid 2 fee kicks...

Dont wanna talk about the Taints v Onkas fiasco but did see the Irish vs Flinders game after, a good win by Irish against the very undermanned Flinders. With Doeckes pulling the strings from half back, they have unearthed some good sized players in Watto, someone called Pup, and the menacing Nick Wark to compliment their plethora of good young players like Van Der Merle and Chappy and of course Ranga. Good to see Irish up and about!

Tho how good is Todd McSorley from Flinders - must be the number 1 recruit for the SA State team IMHO! Kicked a point from about 2 steps in from the half way line on Friday night, certainly a class act with the round ball.

Onkas to beat Flinders. 6-10 could be closer if flinders show up with a good pre xmas side or it will be onkas if they show up with there normal post xmas side.
Goats to beat port 11-15 local derby. Goats to have to much class. J gags running into form and ross christie getting back to fitness. Adsy flo will only get better (lets hope).
Na Fianna to beat irish 6-10 junior to dominate and gav to lead from behind.
Saints to beat mitcham 11-15 too many good players

Yes Adsy Flo,Jnr Flo or Hairy Flo as Moose would say  . Sunday was the first time i have ever reffed a game in which their has been an off the ground decision where all of the player in question team mates, bench and supporters either laughed or appealed for the off the ground. Probably not the finest moment for the former Australasian Champion but it was entertaining for the rest of St Marys.

ROUND 5 7,S RESULTS

ONKAS 5.30-45 WERE TOO GOOD FOR LINDY CHAMBERLINES DINGOS 2.3-9. GOOD TO SEE THEY HAD A MASCOT THERE TONIGHT THOUGH, POSSIBLY WORLDS SMALLEST MASCOT  .

ST BRENDANS 5.23-38 DEF FLINDERS 3.8-17. THERE WERE SOME GREAT SKILLS ON SHOW IN THIS GAME AS IT FEATURED 6 OR 7 STATE PLAYERS AND 4 IRISH GUYS WITH TONS OF GAELIC GIFTS. SAINT BRENDANS MASCOT WAS UNAVAILABLE, I BELIEVE HE IS STILL WORKING AT ROXBY ;-)

ANGRY LEPS 5.14-29 GOT THE CHOCOLATES OVER STEVE AND HIS ALLSTARS 3.7-16 IN A GOOD GAME PLAYED IN HUMOROUS SPIRIT  . SIA WIN THE TAINTS DRINKING AWARD AS THEY GOT ALL THEIR TEAM IN THE CLUB ROOMS AFTERWARDS FOR A LITTLE TASTE OF THE FRUIT OF THE ZUES :drinkers:

Goats 11-16 over Port
Na Fi 1-5 over Irish
Saints 11-16 over Mitcham

I might also make another bold prediction...
- Friday nights game to start at 6 45 sharp  It doesn't matter who is there, WW will ensure this happens so he can get along to the Na Fianna pub crawl :partyman: :drinkers:

Yes in 20 years of Gaelic this is one of those sacrifices that really test your love for the game, suffice to say punctuality will be strictly adhered too. Based on the fact you forgot and left your girlfriend of 5 years at the first pub on the last pub crawl  (and i quote ; Danica-"Tommy there is no way that he has forgotten me" Donna- "Well we are the only 3 left in the pub so its not looking promising") Then id suggest if im getting there by pub 3 then coherency may be an issue by that stage

i still maintain that I let Mrs MBK know that i was moving on. And if not walking out the door with a oversized novelty bell & yelling next pub was probably a good hint!!!
I was quite coherant, until we got to PJ's... A place where coherancy is frowned upon
