I teared up too.

We the public saw what her father was like,
can you imagine what he was like to live with
and what she had to go through when she was growing up :(

I am so happy for her and hope she continues on.

(As I now disappear from this thread not wanting to know any scores  )

Tomic lost in 4 sets, 6-3, 1-6, 4-6, 2-6

You couldn't have asked anything more of the kid, tonight he came up against serving power that he wouldn't have seen before and was exposed to the intensity that comes with a centre court match and the world watching you. The groundstrokes are already looking good, the backhand in particular, and some of his passing shots tonight were superb. Can't wait to see how he progresses over the next 18-24 months.

The post match interview (on court, Chris Dittmar) of Jelena Dokic was one of the loveliest moments of the Open for mine. To see the crowd give her a standing ovation after the game, after getting behind her so solidly all match, and to see her obvious emotion at the win, brought home just what a tough time she has had in the last few years. Safe to say she didn't expect she would be in that position again some years back. The campaign may end next round, but her tennis life has finally come full circle. Really lovely stuff.

Jelana Dokic's game last night, would have to be the best game of tennis i have seen. After the game was quite inspirational too, i hope she gets back right up there in the top 10.

Who has she got next round? i heard the name of her opponent last night and she sounded fairly unknown(but i don't know much about tennis).

The chick she played last night Anna Chakvetadze was seeded no 17 and is no 18 in the world HOF
So makes the effort even better IMO
Dokic will next face 11th-seeded Dane Caroline Wozniacki on Friday

yea i know what seed and ranking they are, but they sound fairly unknown, every knows the Ivanovic's, Sharapova's, Williams, Mauresmo's ;) etc.........

obviously those two players Dokic has played/playing are good, but they are fairly "unknown". :D

no basis really, Hewitt statistics say his better, winning grandslams and that, but i reckon Guccione and Tomic have overpassed Hewitt.

Sure, Hewitt was a great player in his prime, but thats all behind him now.

Considering he's just come off about a 5 month lay off, and got a seeded bloke for the first round made his task pretty hard....

Can you remember Hewitt beating Agassi as a 16 year old ?

And quick...how many tournaments has Guccione won ?

Yeah Gonzalez is a great player no doubt, he is a quality player and i did not expect Hewitt to win.

No i can't, thats the first time i have heard of it.

None i believe, i think Guccione is now a better player, because he doesn't get injured as much as Hewitt, i can bet you Hewitt will be injured 2 or 3 times this year...... and then he will come into the 2010 Australian Open with another injury.

You're fighting a losing battle HOF.

Hewitt has twice the balls of Guccione and would take him to town more often than not.

Guccione has a lot more winning to do to be close to Hewitt's calibre.

Same goes for Tomic, although he looked promising.

Lley Lley's pre-Open quotes:
"...so brave of me to come back to tennis after all I've been through with my surgery..."
"...I'm the most dangerous un-seeded player in the Australian Open..."

Big mouth.
Karma.
