Holiday Fishing report post

Postby Mickyj » Mon Mar 30, 2009 1:25 pm

Well its taken me hours and hours and days and days .But I got to the lake this morning to almost dead calm conditions .I had the odd small fish jump at my fly near where I parked my car.I kept walking and casting not much happening.Swapped sides of the lake and changed flies. Now I am on kind of a quest to catch a largish Bream on a Foam surface Popper fly .
So when I changed sides and flies(from a foam and purple to a foam and pink fly) and started getting mini me Bream some the size of the damn fly attacking it I was getting rather discouraged.
So deciding to head back to my car .I kept walking and casting nothing nothing.I started to see some very large Snook and fatish Garfish.I stood on some rocks and was sight casting got tangled in a tree.Freed my fly and walked along the beach.
I decided to go back in the water sight fishing and casting at a school of snook or garfish along this beach .When bam I am on .Not a large fish not a snook or Gar but a small Bream.
So finally hours and hours and days of tying flies getting them small enough.Making sure the foam wasn't blocking the point of the hook,or the fact that i was destroying the hook when backcasting and hitting seats. finally after days and days of walking casting finally this tiny little Bream fell to my foam popper .
YIPEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry lost control there for a second ;)
Heres the tiny Bream
and a blurry picture of the fish with the fly

They didn't say exactly where in Sa...so far each episode has been a mix of sea and river and covered about 3 or 4 locations each time so you never know. Looking at the little preview clip they showed last night I think Port Lincoln? might be one as he was tuna tossing? also showed him with what I think might be an abelone...

Actually just looked on the tv station schedule and...

Robson Green profiles the hottest fishing destinations around the globe. Robson heads to southern Australia to catch some of the most exotic creatures he has yet encountered. He dives in a shark-proof cage to recover abalone, a form of mollusc; tangles with feisty blue manna crabs; retrieves poisonous octopuses; and joins in the World Championship Tuna Toss.

Took me ages to catch and land something this morning.Fish weren't interested .Then I had a school of something go past .I was wading and couldn't tell what they were, except I kept the popper fly moving and the fish were a jumping at my fly but nothing hit the fly.took a break and chatted with some council workers .thought I'll head home soon not much happening.
Went back in the water the wind had picked up and for a short while the Bream got hungry .Had a few jumps at my fly and then wham bam this little bream slightly larger than Mondays was putting up a great fighting effort .

Image

And this one of the same fish is now my desktop picture great shot of the fly anyway :rofl :lol

Image

And who'd think a tiny bit of Foam and some man made feathers would keep a grown man busy for hours :rofl :up

I went down this morning I didnt stay long .I should have taken my waders was it cold with a strong wind a blowing.Fish were jumping and I lost 2 Bream all in a space of 15 minutes to 30 minutes .Then I noticed the fly that was doing all the damage was itself damaged .Swapped it a few more jumps then DEAD nothing.
So feeling the cold I went home .

I bet that guy will be in Whyalla catching snapper

That show was on last night...no mention of Whyalla. The SA bits (he went to Perth and Fremantle too) were around Port Lincoln...

Tuna tossing at this years Tunarama with Michael and Amanda Proud, visiting a tuna farm with Dave Blacker, catching abalone with Billy and Bob Ford and fishing for gummy sharks with Dave Clayfield and Neil Evans.

The shark looked really yummy...wish they'd eat shark here but the buggers won't touch it...the Jocks think it's only good for bait

Mentioned the names incase any are on here and they can see that they were on the telly  ;)
