I havent given up on fly fishing

Postby Mickyj » Tue Jul 22, 2008 8:15 pm

Weather being awful and surfing fishing forums I was reading about rattle flies .Which put a thought in my head and after several disasters and superglued fingers :-k something that looks like a fly has emerged.
I used a small plastic tube(will have to change to a straw in the next fly) with beads and an awful flower craft thingee with a hole that goes from side to side just to see if any bubbles help :lol
and I took the pics so sorry about that

...and where the bloody hell have you been.... just kidding. Was wondering what had happened to the performing fish though. Glad to hear you haven't given up. Guess it must be pretty damned cold down there at the moment...not good for the arthritis :(

Be interesting to hear how the new fly goes...especially as it sounds like some poor little girl's craft kit has been decimated to provide the components

Meanwhile...happy gluing

Looks good Micky. Do you have all the fly tying gear, vice and other gadgets?
I agree too cold and wet to venture out, busy making plans though.

Well I took it to my very own personal fly trying tank the port river this morning. As I thought the tail was ok length wise but needed more width .No problems casting it with my 6 weight. But the damn thing floated worked a bit like a bass gurgler.
Back to the drawing board for me I will get it down to the fish.I actually found some Bream (two over 30cm) first I have seen in weeks .They were near the bottom while the fly was on top .
Cheers

I like your alternative thinking Micky keep it up. :D Do not let others (from the Fishing forum) put you off :? I think your ideas will pay off, like all inventors you need to experiment. 8)

Thanks alaska .
Many years ago when I was a teenager I bought some fishing stuff that I had no idea what it was used for .Some of it is small long thin metal tubes and I just remembered about them today. So I will be having a look after tea and seeing if i can use them in my flies for that little extra weight .

Cheers
Pics will follow if they work out

Well the pink wonder half worked today Sunday 27th .It did sink would have helped if the fish were around to catch
Just for you JAS it was a 4degree morning in Adelaide it just stopped raining when I reached my spot at West Lakes. On the radio it was forecasting more rain hail and Tstorms .so I left the waders in the car and just tried casting from the shore.

Cheers
