west lakes 15th feb

Postby Mickyj » Sun Feb 15, 2009 9:55 am

After Saturday's zero day fish wise,I decided to try a new spot at West Lakes.
Arriving at a little beach not very far away from AAMII stadium (football park to us oldies).A very strong southerly blowing around 20 knots .
I put on one of my bait fish imitation flies and nothing changing flies nothing. Finally I decided to put a Bass Gurgler(an aussie fly used in the eatsern states) on .
Well why didn't I try this earlier 20 fish tried hitting this surface fly and number 15 gave me a great big laugh. Its been many many months since I landed such a tiny Bream.
After that I hat five more hits but no more strikes.
So at the end of 1 1/2 hour session with bait fishers invading and kids in kayaks I decided to head home .

With a smile on my dial thanks to a tiny yellow fin bream.

Hey don't knock it...a fish is a fish no matter what size :D

Although admittedly something a little larger would be nice...like your fabulous perfoming fish from last year with the great expressive faces ;) but at least you're catching some now.
