On the Monaro, North America took the re-badged model (GTO Pontiac), and said they would be producing them, they then said we will start building the Aussie Monaros also, but Holden is planing to stop production of those soon, which i think is better than American built Monaro's on the roads.

The Yanks got the good engines, while we were stuck with the dregs (Genlll).
The Pontiac looked tough from the start, the first series of Monaro's in Aus looked like a Ladies car, but the current series did improve on it's looks, and now it does resemble the muscle car that it should.
Holden has stated that if they cease production, the Vehicles that are on the road will hold there value better.
I look forward to seeing the Torana if it comes to fruition and replaces the Monaro, I just hope the Yanks will let the Aussies have some of the better engines, instead of just using as a dumping groung for the crap they don't want.

The GEN III and GEN IV are not that bad, I drove a GEN 3 for the 1st time the other day and loved it, but then again what 16 year old P plater wouldn't love driving a car with a 5.7L V8 Image :D Image

My next car will have a GEN III or IV. (about a year away :D )

They said that it was something like one quarter the size of a regular engine, used one twelth the gas but was actually a more powerful engine, or something along those lines. I remember General Motors bought the patent and designs and the whole package after he couldn't find a backer in Australia, then the thing was apparently "shelved" as the car companies don't want to rock the world's over dependence on oil any more than the oil companies themselves (apparently). In this new age of hybrid cars and GM looking in financial strife, why aren't they doing something about this old idea that they have had stored away all these years?

That doesn't make sense.

The figure I supplied on the gas consumption is one from my memory Spelly. It sounds far fetched, but I remember thinking that the whole concept of this new engine was too good to be true at the time. It probably isn't as fuel efficient as that, but it was certainly touted to be far superior when it comes to energy consumption than a regular engine. Thus, oil companies would not be too pleased with an engine that requires far less consumption of their product, as suddenly there would be a downturn in the price of world oil. The fact that we have an overdependence on oil right now is a Utopia for oil companies, they certainly wouldn't want anything rocking that baby at a teat style of consumption that sends prices skyrocketing every time some Casbah in the Middle East lights up a fart. I guess that there is some close link between oil companies and the good folk at GM because there seems no other explanation why the idea was "shelved".
