Dec 16 a windy day at the lake

Postby Mickyj » Sun Dec 16, 2007 10:08 am

Well after a nil all draw at Snowdens Beach on the Port River on Saturday no fish seen or hooked .I decided to head back to my normal flicking ground west lakes .I had been warned that today would be Dragon boat racing day but thought I would still be able to have a quick fish .When the weather guy said 15 to 20 knot winds I wasn't to happy but I drove down anyway.
Got out of my car and thought the wind is not good so i headed left thinking the wind was going to blow over my shoulders .The wind was ok on the left side of the lake the water was slightly choppy. And after a few casts along the beach near Settlers Drive I thought were are the fish !! Even the little pesky mullet were nowhere to be seen.Thoughts of the same day as yesterday in my head I decided to head to the other side of the lake.
Walking into a very strong wind I didn't feel confident .Once I reached the next beach section I walked straight in and the water was colder on this side. But the very strong wind was at my back. The only thing missing were the fish .
So once again I headed out and up the shore a few metres then back into the water(i found this easier last week than stormtrooping my way through the water).I cast out and the fly hit the water I counted 10 1 strip 2 strip then counted 10 and bam one little bite then before I could count 1 .BAM BAM I am on .
Now the hardest thing I have come across since I started wading do I stand and strip the fish in or walk backwards to shore and hold pressure on the fish and then bring the fish in.I decided on the latter as i did last week and managed to bring in my first small fish for the morning.
This little guy must be the most unlucky Bream going because once I landed him right on the edge of the water and the sand the fly came out.He was so tired he just layed there while quick thinking Michael thought wheres the fly and suddenly I picked him up for his photo shoot.

Moved up the beach a few more metres and a couple of casts with the wind blowing strongly behind me and bam bam I am on again.

I took two pictures of that little guy so you see the beaten up fly :).
Anyway I headed back in and missed another fish the fly would have been descending when the fish struck.
With a dragonboat fast approaching me and the wind getting stronger I thought it was time to head home .

Two hours and I beat my 1 fish a trip record :)
