Actually that's a possible explanation as the amount of steroid found is 400 times less than WADA is certified to test for ... 50 picograms which is SFA.

Also, it's not a 'new age' steroid.

That said, I've got no idea whether he's a goner or not ...

Clenbuterol has a half life of 36 hrs and is a mild steroid that aids recovery and burns body fat.

These blokes are bloody smart and know what they can take and what amounts they can take to avoid a positive test.

My take, supposition, is this he has taken a mild dose clenbuterol the day of his ride to aid his recovery from the mountain stage where his muscles would have been working over time. He was banking on the half life clearance to put him back to a legal limit on the day of his next ride (hence why he was clear two days later). he has been surprised with an unanticipated test and has been caught with stuff in his urine.

These blokes will do anything to win even if the effect is 0.5 of a %, so he has taken a small amount of a banned to ensure he was in the best possible shape (not perfeect but as good as he could be) for the last mountain stage of the tour but has come a cropper with an un-announced test on his rest day.

The fact that a special Lab in Germany ahs been used for these rest day samples is that the UCI know what these blokes are doing (taking advantage of rest days and mild doses) to beat the system so they are raising the bar with unannounced tests, better testing proocols and more advanced testing methodolgies.

My opinion is that he will be given the benefit of the doubt as the "food tampering" excuse will be hard to disprove and may explain the difference benefit of the doubt to the accused. However it will be a warning shot across the bow of the professional cyclists to say "we know what is going on and those of you that have been dallying with clenbuterol and other mild doses of steroids on rest days to aid your recovery we now have monitoring techniques to catch you".
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Well it looks like Contador will be banned for 1 year and be stripped of his Tour de France win ... not official until early Feb.
