As I told smithy. Its a trial and open to change. Several things have already changed about it and we'll get there eventually. If I see that was a mistake Ill change it.
If people want to give constructive feedback and go about it the riht way it will be taken on board.

Arseholes lounge - Yes or No?

Postby The Sleeping Giant » Wed Aug 31, 2011 4:37 pm

A Mum, the poll you put up is more loaded than any News Ltd. poll I have seen. redandblack would be very disappointed. You have speculated what is being posted in the hidden forum, made it seem like some sort of sleazy, foul place, then ask people to vote. Childish behavior.

Booney, you say you have spent many, many hours scrolling through this site, and no doubt you have. The thing is, you would have done that even if you were not a moderator, but at least now you can justify all those wasted hours because "it's your job".

The whole thing is a non issue. The only people who seem to have a problem with it are some moderators (past and present), and Hondo.

p.s. What the hell is the "report post" button for. How many posts are deleted without anyone hitting it?

I thought you had to get paid for something be a job. If you do something for free it's a hobbie.
At the risk of sounding like a suck, I appreciate the work the mods do on this site. Reading half the crap on here would drive me insane.

I copy and pasted exactly what Wedgie said the AH lounge was - very carefully did so infact as not to be accused of such a thing.

I was genuinely interested in peoples vote.

TSG - I don't have a problem with a low or even no moderated forum on here if that's what people want

I have a problem with the issue of the banned poster that Smithy alluded to and I also have an issue with the forum being hidden. If the worst that happens in there is swearing, trolling and sleazy pictures well what's the harm in letting other members see it if they want, or not see it if they don't want to?

If someone went in there on their high horse knowing full well what the rules of that forum were well then they would cop what they deserve. I think those that aren't interested like me won't even look at it. I am interested in why you guys feel so strongly that it has to be hidden? Come out and be open and probably no-one will care. Have your lads lounge and enjoy it, good luck to you.

But FFS don't use it to hide banned posters or to vent abuse at whoever you want under gold pass priveleges the rest of us no-fun people don't have.

I think all posters have the right to (1) know what posters are still on the site if they have been banned and (2) to know that they only hidden forum is the moderators one which I think most people accept needs to be there.

This is not a personal attack on Wedgie on any lounge member. These are just my attempts at constructive suggestions about the running of a site that I have been part of for close to 5 years and enjoyed 98% of the time. if I didn't care about the site I wouldn't be posting out on a limb like I am making myself public enemy number 1 to a bunch of posters at the same time.

Its not the first private/hidden/forum on the site, we have several for different purposes.

Arseholes lounge - Yes or No?

Postby The Sleeping Giant » Wed Aug 31, 2011 5:21 pm

Err....try attributing a quote to who posted it then. Anyone who doesn't know who originally posted the words would think they were A Mum's wouldn't they?

How does someone citing it as a quote change what was written?
Doesn't really matter who wrote the words.

While an arseholes lounge is something I wouldn't bother much with personally, if an arseholes lounge keeps a lot of the idiots out of certain threads (particularly SANFL match preview/review threads), then I'm all for it. I don't see a need for it to be a hidden forum, but do like the idea of it only being available to registered members.

Is there a way where some posters access to this forum is limited to the arseholes lounge? That may also help weed out a lot of the crap in many threads.

Yes there is, each individual can have each forum on the site tailored for certain permissions but it does have some small flaws in that they have access to pms, etc to anyone. I'm actually currently working on this issue, so good point Brucetiki and I am currently following it up. :)
